What size for autoX/track rims/tires?

Option

I'm planning on getting a set of designated autoX/track tires and rims. I know that a given set of tires will perform better on a larger diameter rim, but that larger rims are heavier so it increases unsprung weight and the tires will be more expensive. Does anyone have any experience/opinions on this? Oh, they will be going on an mazdaspeed (anyone know what the minimum rim diameter is to accommodate the msp's brakes?) Thanks

What class do you intend to autox in? If stock, then you need a 17x7 with offset of +49-+61 for SCCA.

If you're running in STX, then you can run any diameter, max width 8in. I think 15in wheels will fit, if you get the right offset, but I'm not certain...

I would highly suggest the Rota Slipstream and Falken azenis 215/45/16. I believe this will be the ultimate setup on the P5. Cheap, lightweight, and very functional.

I'm gonna be getting quite a few sets of these if I can see what color people want.

I too am VERY interested in a lighter, smaller wheel/tire combo on my Mazdaspeed for autox/track only. Mostly I want to save a little money on rubber and preserve the stock rims. A slight increase or no change in performance is highly desirable.

I would agree with ARD... If I was going to stay in STX, I'd probably go for that setup as well, or get a set of 15" Kosei K1s with Falkens...

As it is, I'm going to DS. I need a 17x7 wheel with +49-+61mm offset. Any suggestions, ARD?

There are some options. I'm in negotiations with a company as we speak. Just waiting for their lighter options.

FYI, for those who aren't going to be upping their brake size, the Rota Slipstreams or Attacks in 15" would fair quite well too.

You'll be able to run 205/50/15 rubber. This combo would yield very good results.
