what should i do?

:
1999 mazda protege es
ok so i have a highlight silver 1999 mazda protege es and it has 291000 miles on it all original except the pullies even the struts which im replacing in a week. is that a record??? ok so i was wondering what should i do to it swap the engine for the 2.0 or try to get custom forged internals made and rebuild? btw what ever way would be easiest im going to tubo it.

Personally id do a rebuild. The only problem youll come into is that FS rods and pistons wont work in our block as the deck height is 9.5mm lower IIRC.

Means that youll either need to go browsing through Wiesco/Pauter/Arias catalogues to find a rod/piston that will fit our engine bore etc. IIRC B18 or B16C overbore piston was in need of investigation, i kinda stopped looking at that point due to other stuff happening.

Otherwise, get a cam regrind, CAI, ECU, a tuned 4-1 header + decent exhaust (RacingBeat is quite nice) and youd have quite a fun ride.

im going forged and but before im converting my front end and converting the interior to the mazdaspeed and then im going to start getting parts for the turbo setup then saving the money for the forged block from speed circuit

i was thinking about that but i would have to idk. would my guages still work.

All of my gauges work, I use a Protege Speedo Sensor and speedo ring so it is dead on. The tach works thanks to a tach adapter. The coolant temp gauge works thanks to extending the wires on the protege harness and using the protege temp sensor on the v6, and the fuel gauge works since the wiring for it was never altered. It is a great route, however if you have obdII emission testing you will not pass unless you source all parts from a 1996+ 626 or millenia and make it obdII compliant
