Okay, I really really regret not getting standard transmission for my 3. Now im thinking if i should swap my transmision from auto to standard or just trade it in. Wich would be easier. Im not sure but i think changing my tranny to standard would be too much of a hassle because of the tiptronic and all that stuff (our engine being too high tech/electrical). If i trade it in im going for either an rsx or celica. But if i trade it in with my mileage at 10k, and with an aftermarket muffler and sprint springs,(im taking out all my mods and leaving just these two) and a couple holes on my a-pillar i used for some gauges, how much will my value go down? Please help me out! Thanks! (eek2)

You have NO idea what you'd be getting into with a transmission swap...possibly your entire center console, all the shifter parts and linkages, possibly different half-shafts, CV joints, tranmission mounts, etc...and what about the shift indicator in the guages? Just trade....

the lowering springs and muffler will take down at least $1000 in trade value over what the current trade value is. of course the holes in the a pillar won't help either :(

unless, of course, you can convince the dealer that the mods are done 'right' and won't deterr regular buyers from getting the car. how loud is your exhaust? if it's too loud that may be a major problem.

but regardless of trade-in, if you want to get the manual transmission, i'd agree with gimmea3s and say trade it in.

btw, if you can't do it yourself (or don't have anyone to help out), have you considered hiring a shop to put the stock springs and muffler back on? a couple hundred dollars in labor charge will give you a much better trade-in value!

if you go the trade-in route... the a-pillar is plastic and the same gray as the roof, I imagine it won't be that hard to get a replacement for cheap.

Why not trade it in for a manual 3, and swap the springs, exhaust, and a-pillar out at the dealer? So your current car gets all the new pieces off the new car, and the new car gets all the mods you have right now.

your car is pretty much new, i wouldn't swap the tranny, it's not too hard to do, but the parts will be hard to get unless you find a wrecked 3...

^extra labor charge from the dealer.... who knows how much they're gonna charge *shrug*, plus it's labor for TWO CARS

i still have the stock springs and the muffler in my storage but i think the muffler has some spider webs and other rubbish in it. LOL....will it still be usable? Also how much would a shop charge to put the muffler and springs back? Thanks for your help1

If you have an automatic, you should have the indicator in the guages that tell you what gear you're in...or did I dream that?

okay ive decided to trade my car next year....just need to save up some money. Thanks for the help.

Can I suggest that you don't buy an RSX. I used to own one and it was not much faster than the mazda 3. In fact, the 3 has more torque than the rsx type-S.

Just my $.02 - if you're wanting something from Toyota's stable, I'd take a Scion tC before I looked at a Celica. tC: 2.4 Liter 160hp - or have the supercharger added at the dealer and get 200hp. Celica: 1.8 liter, maxing out at 180hp on the GT-S. Neither car is going to steal the spotlight in the looks department, but again, IMO - tC looks better. For the money, I'd get a 3s with a 5-speed - I like the tC's looks online, but standing beside one is a different story...they're kinda frumpy.

The celica looks bad ass once it gets lowered and got some good rims on it! Thats why i was choosing either celica or the rsx because of the looks and the price range. As for the performace, Celicas are pretty fast. They clock around the low 14s.
