When I drive conservatively, I shift gears at the following rpms...

1st to 2nd - 2K
2nd to 3rd - 3K
3rd to 4th - 3K
4th to 5th - 2.5K
5th to 6th - 2.5K

I am just curious to see if usually people shift at higher rpms? Also is there a 'optimum power range /rpm in each gear' factor to this?

1-5 @ 3500
6 whenver i settle down on the highway. only 5th on local roads.
driving hard
1-2 6000
2-3 5800
3-4 5600
4-5 5500
5-6 5400

I never shift below 4500 in any gear unless either traffic is in the way
or I can't get to the next gear at 4500+ w/o being well over the
posted speed limit...
I try to shift 4500-5500 depending on my mood and conditions.

when in traffic or conservative (hardly ever) anywhere between 2.5k and 3k

when having fun (usually), around 6k for first and 2nd... 5k for the rest

For city/conservative driving I usually make all my gearchanges under 3k.

Obviously I don't respect this religiously, I'll go a bit higher in revs if that means I won't have to shift up and then a couple of seconds later brake and then shift down.

I shift every 2k to 2.25k when not in a hurry as for my DD to work back and forth or local driving most of the time. But if i want to pass someone that is an idiot then I would be shifting on 4k atleast.

havn't let the car go wild yet...

1st to 2nd - 2K
2nd to 3rd - 2.5K
3rd to 4th - 2.5K
4th to 5th - 2.25K
5th to 6th - 2.25K

Shifting all depends, when its cold, its low shift and very low boost, but when its warm and I'm not sitting in traffic, with no engine heat soak, I shift anywhere from 2.5k-4.5k or if I feel bored, 6200 because I got the CP-E reflash :) I shift different all the time because you have to take in consideration if the engine is too cold or too hot.

Amen to that, brother. I'm asuming you have a Protege. I probably shouldn't do it with my speed3, but it's just so much damn fun. Oh well, that's what a warranty (and radar detector :) ) are for.

Keep on driving like you're driving.

starting out, i engage 1st gear anywhere between 1200 to 2200 rpm depending on condition (if at uphill, i rev faster).
for gears 2-6, usually at about 3000, but up to 5500 for spirited driving.

i'm curious: for those who usually shift at 5k+, what is your gas mileage?
for me, i average 26.5 mpg with about 60% freeway.

no rush to work and home
1-2 gear 3.0k
2-3 gear 3.0k
3-4 gear 3.5k
4-5 gaer 3.5k
6 is normally when i cruise on the highway or set cruise control

Fun driving
1-2 gear 4.5k
2-3 gear 4.5k
3-4 gear 5.5k
4-5 gear 5.5k

For me...

2nd to 3rd - 5-5.2K
3rd to 4th - 5.1K
