what kind of turbo?

Im still reading and learning about my car and try to research stuff before i modify. But i was wondering, what kind and size is the stock turbo on my ms3? Atp, garret? Sorry, im still kind of a noob to the whole turbo game, always been naturally aspirated. This is my first turbo car. I know one of you guys could help me and answer this (drive)
 
it's a Hitachi Warner K04 journal bearing turbo. It's not the same K04 found on Audi's though, it's completely designed for the Speed3/6 (CX7 uses a smaller one). I can't remember the trim size, maybe 60 I think? But I know it's efficient up to about 22psi, but that's pushing it far, I wouldn't ever regularly run those boost levels. We have our own specific flange on it, so you can't just go buy another turbo and hope it fits, you have to buy a bolt-on upgrade otherwise you're gonna be having a lot of custom fabrication done, and thats $$$.

Thanks, someone was asking me what kind i had, he has a garret t304. I was curious and couldnt find what kind it was. Maybe in future i may be looking to upgrade, but its good for me now and i have no reason to, specially with it being my DD.
 
well i know the A4s use a K03 if im not mistaken. If it isnt im thinking the trim is larger on the one for the MS3. Also the Flanges on the turbo are made just for this car, meaning u cant just get any random turbo and put it on with out major work having to be done. This is all from what i have read so idk how reliable this is, I dont have one yet but im trying to save up for a down payment on one( being a college kid sucks).

I know what your talking about, Im finishing up my schooling for my degree on top of working full time. Extra money gets saved up for that "next part"
 
There's a factory upgrade K04 I believe for the Audi's, I may be mistaken about that but I know the MS3/6 K04 is capable of more power and like mentioned is flanged specifically for this car, so the only turbo upgrades are the ones companies make that are bolt-on upgrades, which are always a lovely large chunk of change.
 
A 79 trim 50mm turbine stage with an Inconel shaft-wheel mated to a 16.5mm A/R Niresist iron turbine housing. Maximum turbine speed is over 165,000rpm with a peak exhaust gas temperature in excess of 990 degrees Celsius.

Really? you must be looking at it through a magnifying glass...it's a pretty tiny pinner, man...:) All this torque ain't coming for free...
