What kind of gas do you put in your tank ???

Hey everyone with their P5.....

I was wondering....What kind of gas do you put in your tank ??
I use supreme gas..I live in Canada....It might be called something esle in US.........Most people I know only put regular........I actually think supreme works very good........what do you think ?

yeah i use premium 91...normally i would never use this on my old car (85 oldsmobile)...but now it seems like the P5 has such a small tank i can't resist...lol

seems to me this has been discussed before....but OUR cars were designed for the REGULAR unleaded fuel....and I honestly don't believe you will show any difference in running preimum with the exception of your wallet emptying faster.. :D

now if you are talking about a modded motor....that is a different story

Same question different board:D

listen to the sir nuke and syzygy, as it says in the manual, 87 unlead is all you need, if you put gas that has high octane level than what your car needs, it actually decreases its engine performance.

Well phuck what all of ya say.. I know that the 87 is all u need but i use 93 because I KNOW that it shows a big difference in performance and i think it goes hand-in-hand with the intake and the performance muffler. Phuck around and use that cheap s*** if u want too. Dont be next to me at the lite after u fill up!

I use 87, and it's fine. I prefer Chevron to other companies, though, even though it's a bit more expensive. Do they have Chevron in Canada? Never been there...

haha, an intake and muffler will never change your car's fuel requirements from regular to premium fuel. Unless you play with the timing or compression ratio, no higher octane fuel will go hand-in-hand with better performance. Spend a few hours and do some quality research. Those who have are telling you to stick with 87. You may think you KNOW it makes an increase in performance but in a Protege5 I guarantee it is the placebo effect you are feeling.
You are going to believe what you want but if you or anyone else actually cares about what is best for their car, they will research it and discover that regular will burn cleaner and leave less hydrocarbon build-up than premium in a new, low compression vehicle. Octane prevents early ignition(knocking) thus raises the threshold of spontanious combustion by pressure alone. This also means that your normal engine will not as easily ignite and completely burn off a premium octane fuel than a regular octane. So it is wasteful and leaves more residual carbons to build-up and slowly clog parts of your engine. Also, a lesser combustion will result in less pressure created and thus less power.
Basically, if you raise the octane, you need to find a way to burn the fuel more completely. Some possibilities are increase the compression(pistons, forced induction) or get hotter spark plugs.
I'm just trying to let people know what is best for their cars. If you don't want to believe some of this, do some research yourself or choose to live in ignorance.

Gas

I use 87 2 tanks, then 1 of 93 in the P5.
I have to run 93 all the time in my truck with
the engine work.

Thanks for the in-depth info, SHAAWN. I was wondering... You said you needed hotter spark plugs to burn the fuel better. Does that ratio work the other way around? What I mean is that I was thinking of getting after-market spark plugs. Do I have to start using 93 gas with those?

What he means by hotter spark plug is not the actual spark plug but the voltage running through it. This can be achieved by an aftermarket ignition system like an MSD system. Unless you car is highly modified there really isn't any point in getting one. 87 and 93 octane fuel have the same composition except for the amount of octane. This means that if given the same amounts of fuel they will have almost the exact same amount of fuel. If you buy the MSD system and run it on high octane gas you will not see a measurable gain in performance. So you might as well run a lower octane and save the money at the pump now and spend it on something that will make a difference later.

adragonfly, oh ya, we do have chevrons here, but i am going to petro canada due to the recent soft lumber deal dispute. :) just kidding, i was actually using the real canadian superstore's pump for the first month, then, i realize, "where did they get the gas from?", now, i am pumping in chevrons.

well i figure why fight between both i use middle grade that way it doesnt hurt and who knows if it doesnt help!!!!!!

Hey Justin,

Funny you said that. I am right behind you my brother!

I figured that this is my first showrom brand new car, so I just figured that it "deserved" the more $$$ gas, but not the priciest gas out there.

The more I speak to people with new cars and all, the more that everyone is telling me that my engine is made to stick with the regular.

Anyway, I don't think it was appropriate for that guy a couple of posts ago to be using the PH-Word....

Just cause its more $$$ don't mean its better!

cmack most def dawg i totaly fell ya i mean hell its only money if you dont spend it there you'll spend it somewhere else right

I guess we've come to an agreement then? 87's the best?

(I didn't like all the "ph" either. Can we try to keep this forum clean?)

Ok Shawn..nice remark. Really, what u wrote was worth the effort. I went and talked to a couple of mechanics and i also plan to research this thing out(not that this is a big deal). Just so i can know myself. I thought the cheaper the gas, the more junk flows through the car system but its actually more water in the fuel the octane. It still feels like theirs more of a take-off using 93 but im just gonna stick with 89 for now.. But i'll be back:p
