What is the best Mattress?

My wife and I are planning on buying a new mattress. Does anyone know what the best mattress on the market is? What do you recommend?

don't get the TEMPURPEDIC...it's junk. I paid $1200 for one and sold it 4months later for $600. I spent more time sleeping in my recliner.

tepurpedic...it's got a pillowtop layer and then it's all foam...our matterss sags in the middle since there is nothing firm to support it and it really only feels like you're layin on the pillowtop and not a mattress. If you buy one dont get the pillowtop...and get some kind of special boxspring upgrade to support the middle more.

It doesn't matter what kind you get as long as it's firm. A soft mattress = back problems. And here's the rule for anybody out there who might think your mattress is old (older than 6 or 7 years is too old) if you go to bed feeling ok and wake up stiff and hurting....it's time to get a new firm mattress.

My wife and I have had the Select Comfort 5000 for about a year now. We like it pretty well. It uses an air bladder that can be inflated or deflated to increase or decrease firmness. They can be a bit pricey but there are no springs in the mattress to wear out so it should last a lot longer as well.

Wow, don't get the pillow top? It seems the pillow top ones are the most comfortable. You mean just get the tempurpedic mattress that just looks like a box of foam? I'll have to lie on the that again. It just didn't feel right. I had a feeling that it would still sag. The sales rep say they wouldn't. Interesting.

I like a firm mattress with a pillow top. None of this space age bulls***. Most mattresses are all made by the same couple of companys anyway.

We went to Sleepys and they were trying to sell us a Kingsdown bed that was so soft that it felt like you were sleeping on air. The sales rep told me that it was a low pressure bed and it would help relieve any back pain and aches that I get. It was comfortable but too much like a water bed. I almost felt a little motion sick on it. The bed that my wife and I really like was the Sterns & Foster Presidential bed. It was really expensive though. The other bed that we liked was the Sterns & Foster Plaza Baroque bed. That felt very comfortable as well. We really liked the Presidential. It has latex foam in it that was pretty comfortable.

We got a mid-grade mattress ( I don't know which one) that felt reasonably nice in the store. Then we went to Linens & Things and spent $120 (queen size) on that NASA-type foam pad. It's about 4 inches thick or so, and also came with a thickly padded quilted covering that made our bed very comfy. It also helps reduce bed shake so you don't wake up the other person getting in and out of bed. We've had it for at least 5 years now and is still fine.

I just spoke to my boss and he said that he bought a "Sleep-by-Number" bed that has air chambers which you can change the firmness or softness to your liking. Anyone heard of these beds and have opinions on them?

tempurpedic does not use a boxspring, it uses a platform foundation. they come in 8 inch, 10 inch and pillowtop which is 13 inches thick. starting price for a queen is $1724.00 and starting price for a king is $1999.00 and go as high as $3299.00. tempurpedic is good if you have ailments, bad back, hips, shoulders and so on. other brands out there are just as good, beautyrest by simmons, posturepedic by sealy and stearns and foster all are premium beds, for the money and the comfort..a beautyrest is the way to go, independant coils which means motion seperation (example) if your honey tosses and turns in the middle of the night, you won't feel a thing. all reasonably priced. stearns and foster only make luxury bedding, a twin size mattress starts at $700.00. but if you have any questions give me a call here at work (bedding plus) 1-228-539-0023 and ask for john...not torque222...lmao. i've got the inside info on all companys and the best way to go.
