What is considered a "Production Car?"

That's the question I ask. The reason I ask is because I've had 3 people tell me that BMW never produced a turbo'd car, but I knew I heard someone tell me that BMW did make one.

When I pointed that out to Ying (noclue119), he said that doesn't count because it wasn't a production car. But what is considered production?

Well the 2002 turbo was sold to the European public. It even had options you could purchase (leather seats, moonroof, but no AC)

Conclusion: The 3 people you talked to and Ying are all wrong (or have no clue) :D

A "production" car has to be made available to the general public. They aslo have to make a minimum of 1000 units.

Hey, anyone here know about homologation(sp?)? I played Sega GT, and you had to have cars that were in certain homologation to do certain races. I think it has to do with the number produced, but the game didn't even tell you that stat for each car, so you had to keep guessing which car to use.

Yeah, I know I could look it up myself , but I felt like discussing it here.

So how many MacLaren F1's are there and what about the new Koenigsigg (sp?). Haven't both these cars claim(ed) to be the "fastest production car" ever?

when you say turbo production car, do you mean gasoline engine or diesel?? If it's diesel they had and still in production, just not in the US

2002 tii was a turbo production car. I plan on picking one up at some point. The 2002 Alpina was turbo as well, but I don't know if that would be considered a BMW production car or not...

I dunno. Perhaps the McLaren held the record until the Koenigsigg came out. I do know there are more than 1000 F1's out there.
