What have you done to your P5 today?

Picking up cat to j-pipe studs and nuts from the dealer, then tonight picking up a GT25 and MSP ECU .... going to the dark-side (headbang)

There's a kit from Mazda with all the parts to replace the VTCS screws. The part number is FSY1-13-SRZ and it comes with the manifold gasket, the plenum gasket, TB gasket, EGR gasket, and replacement VTCS screws. It's cheaper to buy that instead of getting everything separately (OMP sells it for $15).
im sorry but you are wrong. VTCS (Variable Tumble Control System) never had a recall for falling out screws. VICS (Variable Inertia Charging System) had the problem. here is a good explanation what those do http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123736199-Vics-vtcs&p=4431264&viewfull=1#post4431264 I know this because the VICS screw fell our in my intake and a couple of my friends and i have never heard of VTCS screws being a problem. here is a post i made showing pictures and explanation in some detail. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123717873-screw-in-my-engine-was-recal-preventive-work-not-done-like-it-should-be-help!&p=4049733&viewfull=1#post4049733 VICS is in the top part of the intake just like VTCS which is right by the injectors. If what you said above makes sense then you would not need a plenum gasket to replace VTCS screws and you would only need intake manifold gasket as you do not have to take apart the 2 intake halves. VICS are inside the intake where the plenum gasket is and thats why the kit includes it.

^ I feel like this argument shows up every few months. go read the how-to threads or do some research.... its all on this site

Technically we're both wrong :S

The reason I thought it was the VTCS screws is because of the title of the TSB: "Intake Manifold Shutter and Variable Tumble Control Valves Emission Recall [3005C]". But if you read through it, the procedure involves replacing the screws for both the VTCS and VICS butterflies. I'm guessing that means both sets of butterflies were improperly installed at the factory.

Sorry for the fuss, I should have read the TSB...

lol I would put them back in in a second if I still had a stock IM, my car idles like s*** on start ups, well every time I start it unless I let it sit overnight, then its fine.
Pretty sure it started once I put the 626 mani on

VICS is good to leave in as you get more torque at low rpm unless you have turbo. VTCS allows engine to warm up with lower emissions with slight performance hit.

All I know is I removed my VTCS butterflies and kept my VICS and my car ran fine and pulled harder after 4k rpm. But yeah, it's been discussed a thousand times. No worries.

Oh and to keep on track with the thread, didnt do s*** to my P5...didnt even drive it to work.
Had to call off since I have a random bug bite that caused my whole leg to swell up like a balloon.

but I did order some secret parts for the exterior since I got paid today :D I think everyone is going to like it

^Sweet man FI is wayyyy toooo funnnn and your P5 is too hot to not be more fun to drive :)

Thank you sir! Going super conservative. Mostly OEM MSP stuff with SSAFC and ebay fmic. I already have CS j-pipe, SLS mid-pipe, and RB exhaust. Shooting for 180-ish whp

so, did the 2002 models have this issue as well? I have never had any issues, but with 120k miles, I wonder if I should look into it...

damn Chris Im jelly! If I could only do the same. *sigh* lol

You can! I am doing this super cheap buying stuff used from ShredNinja and other people on the forum.

I'll get a build thread up as soon as I pick up some stuff tonight.

put these on :)

looks clean! ^ I FINALLY got my warranty replacement for the right front Tokico HP (blue). Hitachi Automotive was kind of non responsive. It took about a month to get my replacement. I think I called them about 20 times just to get updates.

Worst part is...i still get a knocking sound when braking and excellerating. I'll check my end link, but I don't think that is it. I almost think it is an axel issue of some sort...

Make sure the nuts holding the endlink to the sway bar are super tight. My knocked after doing the front and then I tightened the drivers side nut and its gone.

New OE #2 and #4 engine mounts per #2 torn, and shudder during roll-off. #2 (front) is a cheap, and very easy to replace. #4 is a little more involved, but straightforward. Battery acid had caused peeling paint and surface rust around #4, so sanded and painted to fix it while the mount was out.
Checked to see if the my car was affected by the VTCS recall- no recalls for my car :)
