What have you done to your P5 today?

Not completely sure...I will find out...I am definitely out of my area when it comes to anything wheel wise that is why I asked...once I find out more info I will post it up...

They are 16x7, and I am waiting to hear back on the offset...

changed the plugs and oil. really liking the mobil 1 synthetic 10-30
its alot quieter.
about to put my visors back on and maybe order a motor mount or 2

Now if im just an idiot feel free to tell me....But I could have sworn people saying that synthetic oil + older P5 engine = shot rings?

If not....IM BUYIN SOME! :D

where did u hear that? mine has 207k and ive used syn. Mobil 1 in it for the whole time
my rings are fine, i dont see how they would be shot from synthetic, if anything they would go bad faster with conventional

Well what I regard is hearing people go like 100k on regular...like I would, and then switching to a synthetic....once again I could be completely mistaken.

I used Mobil 1 10W-30 High Mileage, the container states that it has additives made for engines which have used conventional oil a majority of the mileage.

IMO, ring wear is gonna depend more on change intervals, filter quality & how much the motor has been flogged upon more than using synthethic or dino.

How I have understood it, is if you use dino oil for a longgg time in your motor, and then switch to synthetic that it can be stressful to your rings and other seals in the motor and can cause them to break down and shrink up. I don't recall the reasoning behind this but it has been known to happen...

Those look good! Never heard of the wheel name but they look old skool as fack. 400$ sound like an awesome price....mmmmmmdo it

I agree...they look really good IMO...he is going to bring them over and let me put them on the car...from the pics you can't really tell, but they are white with a polished lip...

i need some opinions wise members of the P5 lounge (bowdown)...I just got off the phone with Meineke and they are telling me that i need to replace my a/c assembly to stop the squealing of my belt. about 2-3 months ago i had all of my belts, water pump and tensiors replaced. since then i have had squealing still on my belt. i have about 96k on the car. i have already had the belts tightened several times and this does not stop the squealing. Meineke says that the a/c unit is locking up and causing the squealing. after reading the threads about the a/c constantly running i find this plausible but i want to make sure before i drop major bills on this work.

The bearing in one of the pulleys ( likely the A/C) is worn out. This is causing the squealing I would guess. How much they charging for the entire a/c unit? Idk that you necesarily need to buy the entire unit. I'm not sure how it is on the Protege as I've never had to mess with it. But some cars have the bearing seperate and others have it built in, so I'm not sure if you could buy a new bearing or if you have to buy a larger part that includes the bearing...

Well if the pulley locks up then yeah that could be the problem. Turn on the ac then watch the pulley and see if it locks up or not.

Scratchnsniff those wheels would look sweet polished instead of white I bet ;)

well got the p5 back and the diagnosis is that the bearing is shot on the a/c compressor. there are quoting a replacement unit at about $800. ughhhhhhh....

well for the first time in 8 yrs i parked the car among the other employee cars in my garage...i usually park a half mile a way at the end of a row to avoid the door dings and the "oh sorry, didn't see your bumper affixed to the front of your car" damage...it felt really weird..(scratch)..i guess my beloved p5 is officially a winter beater now!:(

ouch!! thats a lot, try to find one used on here first before you pay that much

i know there are a couple guys who did an AC delete so they prob have a compressor just laying around

Is it possible to replace the bearing itself within the unit as I said before? Otherwise, hit up a junkyard!

That's a load of bollocks, this myth keeps making the rounds. Changing to synthetic from Dino will not cause any hurt to the engine, If anything it will be an improvement since synthetic flows easier in cold weather ergo parts get lubricated much quicker. I have personally changed to synthetic from dino on two cars with over a 100k on the odometer. One a Honda Accord and one a Mazda323.

Pat.
