What have you done to your P5 today?

Newbie here. Hello everyone. I've had my Mazda Protege5 for 7 years now, 140,000 miles, and I love it. Everything started breaking down this year! I had a mechanic replacing everything and then got tired of paying him all my money after watching how easy some of the stuff was to do and ordering my own parts online.

Anyway after two mechanics fixed and replaced various and selected parts on my Mazda and the engine light stayed on, I decided to take her to Autozone and have them put her on "the machine thingy". I looked up the codes and ordered two Oxygen Sensors (front and rear) and replaced them last night.

All my neighbors looked at me like I was a nut when they passed by because I'm a very girly looking female. The sight of me changing them must have been hilarious because up until last night I didn't even know how to use a jack! LOL I ended up going to a 24 hour auto parts store after realizing I needed a O2 socket to get the one up under the car off. I spent most of my time, figuring out how to use my neighbor's floor jack, praying the car wouldn't fall on my big head, scratching up my knuckles and losing my flash light - I started too late in the day.

Even though it took me a long time to do because I didn't know jack crap, I loved every minute of it and the satisfaction I got after driving it on the highway and not seeing the engine light come back on (even if it was only temporary lol) was great - especially two mechanics and a whole hell of a lotta money later.

The power steering pump is my next adventure. I downloaded a manual from a link on one of the forums here to help me out. Stay tuned.......

Well, I'm turned on. haha that's awesome though. We're glad to have you here and hopefully you'll be able to learn a bunch more about your car so you don't have to pay ppl too much.

First get some jackstands to keep the car from smooshing your girly-self!

Secondly...Welcome to the forum!!! There's a whole lot of info and how-to's for everything you could need to do on this forum! The power steering pump is right there in front so it's very easy to swap out.

Major props to you for getting dirty and saving a few bucks! :)

Lois: Step one: Jack-stands! Trust me when I say it won't end well when a 2800 lb car falls on top of you.

Besides that, welcome, and big kudos for grabbing the job by the scruff of the neck and going for it!

Always good to hear about someone else finally getting fed up with mechanics and doing the work themselves. I've told my fiance' many times that as soon as we're married, she's not to take her car ('01 Protege LX) to the mechanic ever again unless we absolutely cannot fix it ourselves. I'll have her changing oil and rotors in no time :D

As for jackstands another alternative is to use ramps. A little more convenient - you just have to be careful driving onto them. I tend to use jackstands for the front and ramps for the rear for some reason.

x2! Welcome aboard. There is a lot of great info to be found on here, just be wary of the mod bug. And nice A3E in your avatar. ;)

Not bad prices for the O2 sensors. I'd also suggest calling Jason at http://www.onlinemazdaparts.com for parts. He offers a discount and ships fast! Anything OEM I have needed for the past two years I have bought from him and gotten it faster than my local dealer can get it here.

just readjusted the foglights so the driver's side is centered in the cutout

Also retightened the rear AWR endlinks that came loose

did you insure them? Or at least pay for delivery confirmation?

What motor mounts did ya get?

medieval....and yeah they have delivery confirmation.....

edit: they were mailed on the 20th.....i got the tracking info....i guess aliens liked them better

Went back to my honda days of ordering parts from the good ole Japan...lol...they came in the mail today and still waiting on another package...

ok the exhaust is on. and after a "fitment" problem she isnt hanging 2 inches from the ground lol. now before the comments start....yes i know its off center by a bit...im gonna fix it. yes it is shaking alot....gonna order urethane hangers for it...which i hope will cure the shakes and center it a bit better. other than that it fits flawless and sounds great. so here ya go:

oh and sorry about the glare...was using my crappy digital still camera for the vid.

go pick up some small hose clamps. use those to center the exhaust on the hangers.

I used zip ties at first, but, they wore out

hose clamps are FTW on centering an exhaust. I used em with the corksport hangers

The Corksport hangers will tuck it up tighter to the bumper, but won't help with the side to side
