Newbie here. Hello everyone. I've had my Mazda Protege5 for 7 years now, 140,000 miles, and I love it. Everything started breaking down this year! I had a mechanic replacing everything and then got tired of paying him all my money after watching how easy some of the stuff was to do and ordering my own parts online.
Anyway after two mechanics fixed and replaced various and selected parts on my Mazda and the engine light stayed on, I decided to take her to Autozone and have them put her on "the machine thingy". I looked up the codes and ordered two Oxygen Sensors (front and rear) and replaced them last night.
All my neighbors looked at me like I was a nut when they passed by because I'm a very girly looking female. The sight of me changing them must have been hilarious because up until last night I didn't even know how to use a jack! LOL I ended up going to a 24 hour auto parts store after realizing I needed a O2 socket to get the one up under the car off. I spent most of my time, figuring out how to use my neighbor's floor jack, praying the car wouldn't fall on my big head, scratching up my knuckles and losing my flash light - I started too late in the day.
Even though it took me a long time to do because I didn't know jack crap, I loved every minute of it and the satisfaction I got after driving it on the highway and not seeing the engine light come back on (even if it was only temporary lol) was great - especially two mechanics and a whole hell of a lotta money later.
The power steering pump is my next adventure. I downloaded a manual from a link on one of the forums here to help me out. Stay tuned.......
