What have you done to your P5 today?

do you have headers too? aftermarket headers will cause your exhaust to shake even more since the stock headers have an extra connection to the frame of the car, which is lost when you upgrade the headers...

Amsgator: you have the OBX right? How tight did you put the spring bolts?

i didn't use a torque wrench so i cant give exact numbers. why maybe too tight? i might be able to borrow one and get it to what it should be. are there numbers for them?

well, you don't need exact numbers. I mean, did you tighten them all the way down, or is there still some room for the springs to move?

there's still room for them to move but i can try to losen them to make sure. how much of a gap should there be btwn the spring coils?

I washed my car today and not 5 minutes from it being washed did I encounter gooey smelly animal feed/slop that some dumbass dumped all over the road for about 5 miles. I rinsed it off as best as I could but it still smells like vomit all up under my car.(puke)

This is the problem I am currently running into. At certain speeds my midpipe is bumping into the heatshield underneath the car. I think if I just bend the hangers a little more as one side isn't very tight (the hanger isn't really holding the pipe anymore) everything will work out. I am getting sick of trying to make this MAM midpipe a good product - right from the start the fitment has sucked. I can't wait until SLS releases their 3" midpipe (drive)

you are sure it's the midpipe? b/c i think it's my muffler that's hitting the rear bumper. check that too. i still gotta figure something out for mine

Yeah mines definitely the midpipe - the muffler isn't moving anywhere, the Kartboy hangers have it held in place decently. I just think I have one of the hangers in the wrong place (I didn't really look at the sizes when I installed them) and one of the hangers on the midpipe is not supporting it. With the car on I can see the midpipe vibrating quite a bit.

o, you may have put the 12mm on the midpipe. 12s on muffler, 10 on mid. my hangers are holding it in place, but i think it's still vibrating side to side and hitting that way. i need to try and fix it. :(

amsgator, I think this may help you out. My P5's exhaust consists of an OBX header - MAM midpipe - RB cat-back. First off, all exhaust systems (even the OEM) expand and grow as they heat up. A few issues pop up when you increase the pipe diameter with an aftermarket setup and things are compounded when you construct an exhaust system from different aftermarket suppliers - the "excepted" manufacturing tolerances add up with each piece and it may take a bit of work to keep things from coming in contact with other parts both when the system is cold and when it is up to temp. It took a quite a few tries before I got things dialed in and a friend to help out will make it easier. I started with the 12mm Kartboy hangers in the front and the 10mm in the rear. No matter how much I adjusted the pipes by loosening the bolts and repositioning/tightening - I could not stop the RB from hitting the underside of the car over bumps where it loops over the rear subframe. Next, I placed the OEM's back at the midpipe and the 12mm at the rear and I got a cold start up rattle. Finally, I put the OEM mounts back at the rear, loosened all the exhaust bolts and re-tightened things with the recommendation that RB has with the installation of the cat-back. For example, I pushed up (hard) on the mid-pip and 1st section of the RB while pushing up (effectively forcing the other end of this section down) on the RB exhaust tip while I tightened the bolts at the section that goes over the rear sub frame. Success! A few mm here and there make all the difference. I now have zero contact at any time.

i am gonna play around with it this weekend hopefully, maybe early next week. i'm not sure if it's hitting where yours hit or if it's the bumper, i am gonna have someone look while i start the car and start accelerating to see if it's the bumper or if it's the part above the subframe. i can put the jackstands on the rear cross member that goes across to the two rear wheels correct?

did you mean you pushed down on the other end?

"For example, I pushed up (hard) on the mid-pip and 1st section of the RB while pushing up (effectively forcing the other end of this section down) on the RB exhaust tip while I tightened the bolts at the section that goes over the rear sub frame"

EDIT: i attached pics of the spring bolts. aMaff asked if they were too tight. not sure... are they? i had a friend put them on for me while i was doing somethin else.

To be most accurate, you need the car as level as possible while doing this (as if it was sitting on the ground) - but you need to be able to fit under the car lol. I put the front up on ramps and the rear on jack stands.

I'll post up the RB instructions for clarity ...

i sent you a pm.

well i figured out what the clunk was...it's the rb hitting where it goes above the rear crossmember/subframe just like yours was. how can I fix that? it's pretty much touching it while shut off so what should I do?

Yep, I think that's what I did. Even so, fixing that I doubt I will have fixed my rattling problem (well more like an annoyance). I will probably have to go around and do like what Bala explained... As annoying as that may be.

The area I'm trying to bring to attention is the "Tip position adjustment", with my point being that this technique works at all points of the exhaust system where there are bolts. You may need to pull on one section of pipe while pushing in the other direction on another section while tightening things up. The problem i was having with the kartboy hangers on my setup was that they were pulling the rear section of the RB up towards the underside of the car too much, and no amount of adjusting could stop the contact I was getting. Obviously, depending on what components you have, the Kartboy hangers may work just fine - they just didn't in my case.

i have the stock mid w/ rb cat back and kartboy hangers :(

won't all the pushing up just make it closer though? or does it bring the tip closer but the pipe farther away?

I had the same thing happen to me. I installed the MAM midpipe and Kartboy hangers at the same time and it definitely sucked the tip of my Magnaflow up and under my car! It definitely doesn't move around anymore though...
