What have you done to your P5 today?

Guh, that thing was obnoxious, even by my standards lol

as prodigy described it..."that thing is lemans loud" i did think it sounded cool though just not fun for long drives

deep mellow and refined and smooth?

exactly...i am afraid to add a highflow catted midpipe because i dont want to change the sound but i know thats the restriction right now

Rotaries are f'ing loud without cats. I drove my fc with a straight pipe for a week and got pulled over three times having to apologize and explain that I would have regular, legal exhaust put on it, as soon as it got shipped back to me.

Above 5k that thing screamed like nothing I've ever heard.

Have you done anything with the mid-pipe I gave you?

The catless mipipe? It won't bolt up anymore.

But, in all honesty, you're sometimes better having one custom made. The 3" on my Miata (which... that concept alone boggles my mind) is a custom made stainless. Perro del Sol has a custom 3" on his Spicy. It's also custom made. Both cars sound awesome... but maybe because I'm slightly biased.

While I know it's a different engine, boosted, etc. here's an idea of what my 3" sounds like.

The Miata sounds awesome. I love the way she sounds. And I love Marlons exhaust too, he actually told me to go see his guy in Lakewood and have a custom exhaust made before I ordered the Corksport. I should've listened to him...

my miata does not sound like a civic...it sounds like a BP with an exhaust lol i actually really like the sound of my exhaust

If your Miata sounds anything like the Miata class cars we heard at Mid-Ohio, then those little bastards are freakin loud! Haha

I'll just save up some cash for a high flow cat, seems like the best option. And the great thing is we just got a new pipe saw at work and I made friends with the welder in the shop next door. I'll take off my midpipe, measure the cat and cut it out, run next door and have it welded in. Then I don't have to have the scary monkeys at Midas under my car cutting and welding up my lovely Corksport.

I decided that once I get a Mazdaspeed P5 axleback, I'm gonna get the 2.5" piping going from the cat to the axleback. I'm also gonna put a Vibrant resonator on the piping too, should sound awesome.

if your talking about the factory mazdaspeed axle back do your self a favor and run far far away from that thing...the p5 mazdaspeed axle back is the worst droning exhaust in the world

No not the factory Mazdaspeed Protege axleback. I'm getting the Mazda "sport" exhaust for the P5, aka the Mazdaspeed P5 axleback.

I've heard videos though and there's no drone. Dxavep5 is local to me with one of these and his doesn't drone either.

yeah thats the exhaust i am talking about...i wanted to smash that thing with a sledge when it was on my g/f's car...ended up trading Amaff for his mazdaspeed protege modified axle back before he traded in his car. If your serious about that axle back check with evilmonkeymsp he may still have his in his garage because he felt the same way about it and will probably let it go cheap

Did you guys have aftermarket intakes though? My local friend that has one said once he went from his AEM to factory intake the drone went away.

Yep. had an intake, didn't help. And a header just made it worse. Had to drive from Jacksonville FL all the way back to Atlanta w/ that before I could source my RB. Now THAT was a good exhaust (basically a shortened Mazdaspeed Protege cat-back)

yeah never ran an intake with that axleback we did run it with and without a head and it didnt make a difference. Still had the stock midpipe as well.

Currently running the RB axleback from amaff, catless 2.5 SLS midpipe, and a OBX header with little to no drone.
