What have you done to your P5 today?

Shiny new MSP heat shield, painted battery top (gotta touch it up a bit). Thinking about pulling off the vacuum block and boost controller and giving them the gold treatment.

Thanks Chris. I forgot to also mention that I ordered new LED's for the license plate lights since one of mine was flickering a while back. Those should be in tonight. Also ordered yellow turn signals for the front (non-led). Lastly, I ordered a new MSP rear crossmember, all new hardware, and parts for some endlinks. Should have everything swapped out next Saturday and then I'm set. No more spending money on the car for quite a few months. I'm VERY satisfied with the car now.

Speaking of painting, I did some of my own. I painted my strut bar wrinkle black, as well as my rear emblems, and my front Evil M (the yellow was peeling). I think this will give my emblems a unique look.

I'm SO excited!

So my P5 started making an "odd" noise going down the road about two months ago. As the noise worsened I figured my luck it was one of the new wheel bearings going bad, however, I also thought it could be a wheel-balance issue.

After swapping on my stocker peeling chromies I did the wheel bearing "jerk" test to the raised wheel. Not sure why I didn't do it with the 17" Mazda 3 wheels on, but I didn't...

To my surprise the drivers wheel shook up and down round and round and all over. Awesome, I thought, starting back to school and having two trips planned, I was going to have NO time to work on it. So I parked it and have been driving the bimmer for the past month. Afterwards the thought crossed my mind that the new axle nut might have come loose and might also be causing the drivers-side output shaft seal to be leaking. Which it wasn't before changing the leaking passenger-side, it started leaking afterwards. But typical male, I thought, oh no, surely not, my mechanical work is top-notch, lol...

A month passes and although I feel sick and should have gone to bed, I wanted to feel productive and just put the car in the air on jack-stands. And to my surprise, after pulling off the drivers-wheel, the axle nut was SO LOOSE! Scary loose. I swear I torqued that biotch down with an impact. AND dented in the indention part...

So I'm exhausted after that bit of work because, as I said, I feel like crap. I don't have time to be sick with full time work and full time school, but I am excited to know the problem will most likely be an easy fix. I say most-likely because everything I've fixed on this car has taken twice as long and cost 2-3 times a much...

Hopefully wake up tomorrow feeling well, run to work to fill up an air tank and borrow the impact, maybe I'll have her back on the road tomorrow afternoon.

*crossing fingers*

Question: Having driven the car for at least 500 miles in said condition, will the front-end need to be re-aligned when I get her fixed? Nothing suspension-wise has moved, to my knowledge, just the axle and disc/hub have come loose. Thoughts?

day one after oil change with 5-30 and engine honey (lucas oil stabilizer) Rod knock at startup not noticed this morning nor after class, and feels smoother at idle.

People knock this car for being slow, man try driving a 91 323 for while then go back to the P5. I think this is a fantastic car, I have no trouble getting into 4 wheel drifts around corners, so tiiiight. My 88 mx6 gt would have beat it in a straight line but even with tokico's, eibach, poly all around, whiteline bars, tower bars, lower cross links etc, the 5 out handles it stock. No drag racer but a handler and thats what makes me smile. ..

Fish, nice ride mang. The gold is slick, I agree with making the other bits gold as well.

Imola, I wouldn't trust an impact to torque it. Get a torque wrench, max it out then give it another 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn with a cheater. imo of course. Monitor your tire wear, if you get feathering or other obvious schtuff, or if it feels funny in the front end, steering and attitude get er aligned.

Here's a teaser of my wrinkle black emblems, sorry for the crappy cell phone pic. I'll get real pics of everything tomorrow.

liljae - You posted right when I did, lol.

Emlblems look good but from far away they may look like blobs.. Just sayin, not hate'in. Maybe no emblems just an M on the back. Perhaps a yellow back plate to the front M. OHH riiight, all those are the rear emblems... ok got it. I say just the M and cut the "5" off and just stick the red 5 on. Well that may look like hell..

by 4 wheel drift, I meant all four tires seem to get a little loose at the same time. Maximize entering speed, then let off the gas and tap the brake to lighten the ass and give a little nudge inward to break em loose resulting in a nice even "drift" momentarily. This car feels solid and smooth. love it
