What have you done to your MSP today?

new toys for the car today

Nope, no codes. I had a cylinder 4 misfire CEL about a month ago, cleared it and the car drove fine.
Now it bogs(pegs 10.0) like crazy going into boost and the aem wideband sweeps from 11.0 to 16.0 when i'm cruising<---real strange

Yea, hopefully new plugs and wires can do the trick for ya. I too recently started throwing multiple misfiring codes, I put in new plugs just now so ill see if it comes back. I also noticed one of my boots wasnt snug on one of the plugs....could be the problem.

So your a/f readings just started sweeping as of late? Mine does exactly that, but only since installing my 626 mani with no EGR....cruising, light throttle speeds.

I think this is because you have a relocated MAF. There's so much water in the air that it fouls up the filament in there and the extra air going by only makes matters worse. If I drove through rain for long periods of time I would start to hit fuel cut at anything above 1/4 throttle. In one really bad case I actually pulled a few pints of water out of my IC. We never could find a leak...
Sounds about right. You and I seem to suffer from very similar problems -- prolly cause we have very similar setups, a-duh, haha.

It's SO aggrevating, though. I just had to deal with having a CEL for two days (good ol' overzappage of the MAF) because the car had a spasm after dealing with a day of rain. I literally couldn't boost over 3psi because of the MAF flipping out.

Car finally 'relearned' it's own maps, though, so it's running fine again .. but still. Christ.

The sweeping afrs started like a year ago but it was rare. Now , it happens constantly. Its starting to really piss me off, makes driving the car not fun:(

Hell now, LOL! I paid too much for this thing just to sell it!

Yeah, I'm beginning to think it might be something with the MAM FMIC core or something. I mean, there are lots of other people running relocated MAFs so why is it only us having the problems. When Ryan and I pulled mine apart that one night we literally poured out pints of water! We even made this ghetto-rigged, home-made pessure tester and we couldn't find anything. That was back last October and after that I clamped those pipes down so tight it isn't funny. So far it hasn't happened again and I did drive through a good amount of rain back in May once.

On another note the new studs are in and the turbo is back bolted on. Manifold is back on the car and everything. Hopefully tomorrow the radiator, IC pipes and j-pipe go back in and it should be back together. I even did a better job of bolting things down this time. Not too bad: 3 weeks down, 3 days up, 3 days down and hopefully back up indefinitely!

LOL @ the pressure tester that was a fun night and some damn good times. i remeber i was like jon.......theres somethin in your pipes and it sounds like water XD

LOL yeah that was awesome. Neither of us had any idea that much water was in there! Man, I miss VA sometimes...

So yeah, I've actually been taking pictures this time through the install. Maybe I'll make a thread once everything is said and done. I've also noticed that I have a small coolant leak at the turbo and a small oil leak at the back of the oil pan. Neither are really substantial so I'm not going to worry about them now. I'll probably try to fix the oil pan at my next oil change.

When i had my MAM FMIC, when it rained and i had the relocated MAF i had the same problems. I pressure tested the Core, it held 25 psi for 10 mins no problem. I pressure tested the system and it held 15 psi for 10 mins. Yet somehow every time it rained my freakin MAF got wet and i would be able to pour the water out of the post IC elbow.

I know you have mine, but i told whomever i sold it too, that it leaked somehow but holds boost. I dont get it at all.

Rush, if its tempermental when it rains, then after a day of driving when its acting up, take the maf off and see if theres any water. that would cause your issues.

I was thinkin back in the day it was comeing through the fiter but i have a MAM intake (in aluminum) and i have absolutely no water issues at all.

So i dunno.

have you done any checking with your injectors, fuel rail or fuel pressure regulator? if the FPR is going bad, it can cause more/less fuel to be thrown into the cylinders, my car drove for a long ass time and then finally popped the FPR cel..

so basically you had a water to air cooler!

Why not just park the 240 for awhile man? Seriously if I knew you where sellign your 240 2 months ago It would be in my driveway right now or down the street in my friends due to speed bumps.

Can't afford it basically. I owe my dad money on the car and no job plus school means I can't pay him back. I hate being in debt, especially when my dad could be using that money to invest or buy himself something nice.

On topic, I put my hardpipes and intake back on today. Made me happy.

I think water in the intercooler could actually be a common thing. I know they're bigger cores but the ones in the semis I work on have it happen quite a bit. We actually have to drill a small hole in the hot side pressure pipe (this was actually a dealer repair procedure). It gets so bad sometimes that in the winter the water would actually freeze in the lower pressure pipe and wouldn't allow any throttle response at all.

I honestly thought that the MAF might have actually fried itself when the car first 'hit the brick wall' and the CEL popped on. I've done the 'overzap' thing before -- but wow, it was really bad this last time. Especially considering how long the 'aftereffects' stuck around -- two days later, when it was finally sunny and dry out again, the car STILL would not boost over 3psi. Ugh.

I'll have to pop off the piping to check over the MAF, and see if there's any water pooled anywhere, the next time it rains. Then maybe I can join the water-collecting-MAM-FMIC-kit-relocated-MAF club! Yaaaay!

check for a lil burn spot or some kinda blemish on the maf element too (the part thats actually in the pipe). mine had a black spot from where water got on it and it fried it or something. cleaning it didnt help. the answer is eliminating the problem that causing it unfortuneatly.

sounds like you had the same problem i did. i was stranded 3 hrs from home when mine just gave out due to being wet.

The first time it happened to me I was fine after about a day but then again I also drove an extra 200 miles not in rain (but still had a CEL and couldn't mach the gas). The second time however I drove 5 hours stright through decent amounts of rain. It first started cutting about 2 hours in and there was so much water in the IC and pipes you could hear it sloshing around. So check the bends right before and after the IC and the IC itself for water. I've never actually had my MAF permanently damaged but there would be a rust-colored residue on the filament. I always managed to cleaned that off with some MAF cleaner, a Q-tip and a careful hand. After that was done and the pipes were dry everything was back to normal.

adjusted the ride height on my bc's after I installed them yesterday. gotta get used to the ride of them, but I might raise them up a smidge. my fronts rub on hard cornering, then again I am set at the softest setting for the fronts
