What have you done to your MSP today?

relieving any kind of restriction in the exhaust is a good thing for a turbo. regardless of the type of turbo, its always better. whether its little difference or big difference.

basically in other words: If you want the most out of your turbo, give it what it needs.

In theory yes, but realisitcally, the S is not a huge restriction on the stock turbo and unless u get a good deal on the S pipe, then its not worth the gain vs price.

Youd be better off extrude honing the stock one if you really wanted to do something.

Thats good to know, has anyone personally done a P&P of the stock S?

mpi nick used to sell them with his turbo upgrade so there should be a few running around.

its a good idea cause the stock one is beefy, unlike the corksport one i have. which breaks often (not mine but others do)

Yup, mpnick did the s pipe and manifold pnp. I got them both.

I want to lose the S design and I would gladly sell the PNP stock s-pipe, if a company made a straighter pipe and bigger inside.

I think this is the first time I have ever disagreed with you Tony, haha. Depending on how much boost is being run, it is a pretty considerable bottleneck being less than 2" ID on the first bend.

Woohoo! I'm excited.

I've received my ATP WGA, and tomorrow I'm having a new timing belt (not exciting, I know), the Corksport front and rear motor mount inserts w/ new bushings, and the WGA installed. I'm also having them bend the downpipe exhaust hangers a little to stop the cat from rattling against the oil pan.

I'm hoping this will renew my love for the car enough to distract me from the temptation that is the 08.5 MS3.

thats ok your allowed. ive run both at 12 psi and noticed no difference what-so-ever. The only thing changed was the S pipe.

Im just goin by my experience.

Ive always believed your exhaust is only as big as its smallest opening..

correct, however were talking about the downpipe. its actually ideal on a turbo to start out smaller and make a gradual opening to the final size (ie a cone). now, im not saying the S is an ideal size but its not as bad on our turbo that everyone makes it out to be. like i said, at 12 psi i noticed no difference, so that means its about 5 whp or less of a diference. not worth the cost of getting a 3" or even 2.5. if your planning on running 16-20 psi on this turbo your better off getting a larger turbo anyhow, the exhaust side exit will be larger anyhow and you will see more benefit from a larger downpipe.

i think the people defending the large downpipe are the ones that own them :)

So much for getting my head done next week =(.............i just went and bought wiseco 9.0:1 pistons with a .020 over bore and a fidanza flywheel!! =D
