What have you done to your MSP today?

So how much is it going to cost me to get my car to sound like urs?

about a half hour on your back.....

no, but for real... all you gotta do is remove the cat-back... sounds like half hour job to me if you soak it down with a lil PB blaster beforehand.

Yeah seriously. Actually mine happened because some dumbass doesn't know how to properly hang an exhaust like he said he could. He claimes he is certified to weld on Military aircraft but after seeing his handywork in my trunk (that's where the piece that fell off resides), I wouldn't fly in that plane. The dumbass used 1 hanger from the cat all the way to the side exit area. It basically was jumping up and down underneath my car until it literally ripped off the cat and I rolled right over it. Thank God I was pulling into work and not on the ******* freeway. Then the douchebag wanted to charge me again for fixing it and needed my car for two days... WTF?

Anyhow, so basically it's just the stock setup except you take everything from the last cat back, off. Simple. It didn't sound as loud when it was side exit though (which was what I HAD). My setup WAS straight pipe from the cat to the passenger back door area. I think I may put it back on but make it rear exit and make the exit bigger (like 3" or 3.5").

In summation, to make your MSP sound like mine do this:
1. Jack the car up (no need for lifts as it shouldn't take long).
2. Take a saw and cut right between the reso and cat.
3. Remove catback section.
4. Let the car down.
5. Crank it up.

I actually don't get much, if any, exhaust fume smell in my car either.

Goatee - Nice write up bro. Im so going to do that to Itsyellow's car. When that dude is sleeping im going to cut that piece off. He'll be pissed but he might thank me later. (grin)

got an oil change....found a huge crack right down the weld on my Thunder Manifold. Got smogged and came out as Gross Polluter!!! F*#@!!!!!

Been there with my thunder mani too. Split right down the backside of the middle two runners about 3" and when I unbolted my egr tube the threaded part welded to the mani just fell straight off. Welded up and holding for now??

The Thunder Mani seems like a pretty good piece and a lot of people have it but it would appear they fall apart under slight stress... why buy one then? Or wouldn't the distributor (whomever that may be) pay for a replace or fix?

They may, I know that OBX does... But it's not really worth it to have to uninstall it and BS with the company about it. Then you have to ship it out and wait for it be shipped back. Probly a good 2 month process... **** that, lol. I'll just take it down the road and have a shop weld it up for $40. Be done with it in a couple hours, instead of a couple months... Naw mean? lol

Exactly how I feel myself....What's the use of shipping it out? I really can't be without my daily driver for too long. So I may just do the whole "remove and have it welded again" thing. I mean its almost half the price of the stock mani or the Steedspeed (wish i could afford that one).

The maker of the Thunder Mani is actually on the forums. In his defense, he did agree to pay for repairs done to the first version he released, and later released a second version that supposedly addressed all the problems and I do not recall hearing anything after that.

But I can understand why most people would rather just buy a product that has no major reported issues, just for that little added security.

the problem is really due to mazda's faulty engine mounts allowing too much movement... the mani itself should be fine... if the engine didn't move so much.

This is what OBX blamed the first N/A 4-1 headers that broke at the collector. Except they were being dicks back then. I had to pay to mail it to them and then they would look at it and see if it was a design flaw (proved it was later on) and then they would deside if they would cover it. If so they would mail me a new one free if not I had to either pay for a new one or pay to mail my broken one back then pay to get it fixed locally. Screw that. This is a never ending battle we are all going to have.

I went in the garage and just sat in the car, played with the shifter and clutch....... and then got sad because I know the snow won't be gone for like 4 months :( I miss driving that piece of s*** stubborn car.

+1 dead on here!! if you upgrade your motor mounts the Manifold doesn't have near the issues as users who are still using stock mounts.. the protege motor moves alot with the stock mounts causing excess stress on the welds! The STOCK manifold suffers the same cracking problem, only not on the welds (its on the actual runner)

i am just going to take mine to a welder and have them put some good looking beefy welds on mine and call it a day :)
