What have you done to your MSP today?

The afc wouldn't affect the idle... There are several good deals on newer mazdaspeeds around Austin right now, there is an ms6 with a brand new engine and trans for $9k, an MSM for $3500 with 200k miles and a couple first gen speed3s that need minor work for $6-7k. My buddy just bought a very clean 09 pearl white loaded GT w/nav lowered on RX8 wheels and a downpipe, almost perfect condition garage kept 83k miles for 11k.

guys... what makes the car smell like burning oil... is that smell coming from the crank case breather? been meaning to get a catch can for a while.. should i get one and plumb it into my oil return line? i do NOT wanna spend like $200 on a can and some tubing.. any recommendations?

blew a coupler for the first time in a few years... one of the old rubber ones i had back in 2009 heh. ill admit my msp was a build on the cheap and most of that is now in the p5... p5 is such a shitmix lol...

208km p5 shell, 130km msp turbo setup/struts/brakes, 315km engine, 211km trans and axles.. i dont give it any respect lol.. its the daily.. i should... it needs a unichip bad.

That's why I pulled the AFC because it wasn't helping the situation any and I wanted to remove a variable. Pretty sure it's just having the bigger IC that's causing the problem. If I put the stock SMIC back and I still have the problem, I'll probably take it in and have the mechanic try and find the vacuum leak that would likely be causing the problem.

I'm also being very picky about the MS3 I buy. I want a 2012-2013 Red with Tech Package and no more than 35k on it.

valk, the return line o ring on the turbo made mine smell like it was burning oil. that s*** really sucked.

Hmm I did reuse it when my new ones took a month to arrive. Maybe ill change it.

Thats usually what it is. Oil seaps out of the turbo and onto the exhaust housing and just constantly smokes lol When you change it make sure to scrub the downpipe and turbo really well with degreaser, should help
That residue stays on there forever before it stops smelling

yeah if it's that, you'll definitely see oil collected on the bottom of the j pipe. the wife constantly told me i smelled like car ass lol

I cleaned the turbo down well before reinstalling but its entirely possible that oring is bad. It was hard. I have the gasket for it. Just kind of a pita to work on. I need to do something with my oil return. Its kinda ghetto fab ha.

The 626 mani won't make any more power. I don't care what BS street unit has on their website. Just remove the VTCS flaps in your stock manifold and you will make the same power if not more with a lot more low end than with the 626.

My current one is cracked.

I commend you for resisting to mod it, after about a year of driving on the stock tune and intercooler here in the Texas heat I was about ready to pull my hair out. These cars are so slow stock but respond so incredibly well to a few mods, it is almost unbelievable.

On a side note I got my new shift knob and installed it. It's lighter than stock but it's made of delrin so it's 'impervious' to temperature and it's easy to grip.

Aside from the knob, what other mods do you recommend if the cars mostly stock?

My o2 shorted my ignition system

I went and bought a new o2 sensor but haven't installed it. I need a little break from the MSP right now. I also traced the stock o2 sensor wiring all the way back to the engine block and found no tears. You should see the o2 sensor I removed though.... I won't even try to describe it. I'll post a picture later.

The wires internal on my sensor welded together.

I don't see the intercooler affecting the idle either, it would be a vac leak, IAC, MAF, primary O2, exhaust leak at the mani, intake mani leak, TB gasket leak, EGR sticking or leaking, etc.

There are tons of them on the forum for ~$40-50, you can delete the VTCS and swap it out. I just don't appreciate street unit overpricing their stuff. I don't really 'recommend' a shift knob, I just have been wanting a new one lol. A stock MSP needs an intercooler upgrade, an intake (I prefer a short ram to make more room for the FMIC piping), a Split Second AFC, poly motor mounts, and an exhaust. Other small stuff like an aluminum rad, shifter bushings, springs, etc can come later. BUT don't mod the car until it has had a proper tune-up and everything is running correctly.

I have no clue what it could be. At this point I am thinking it's an issue with the ECU itself.
If it's the relay it has to be related to the fuel pump itself. Try another relay, there are several of the same relays in the fuse box. I know you already replaced it but it's worth a shot. You can hear them click when you plug them in if they are still good. I am no expert but I feel that the fuse would blow before the relay burns up, or at least it is supposed to.

I should have done more research before I purchased it. The Mazda recommended maintenance has all been done. Motor mounts were replaced because the broke. I didn't get any fancy type. I have an intercooler, cold air intake, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, downpipe, midpipe, and EBC brakes and rotors on order. What is the Split Second AFC?
