What have you done to your MSP today?

Nope, MSP ECU and SS AFC V2. This is just odd because most accounts of this CEL on this forum also involve irratic idles and/or stumbling; I have neither of these. In fact, the car has run better in the past few days than it has all year! Maybe my primary O2 sensor is dirty or something, I dunno. If I had any vacuum leaks or exhaust leaks I would see it on my wideband as running lean. I guess I'll just recheck all my bolts on my IM and exhaust manifold, make sure the O2 sensor looks good and is properly tightened down, check and clean the MAF and recheck all my lines again. I might even run some seafoam through the fuel system to check for a clogged injector or something.
 
I have the same CEL and I'm going to do fill up with a full tank and put fuel injector cleaner, fuel injection cleaner, and octane booster to see if it cleans up any dirty injector and if not I know its my injector(s) that are ****** up. I did the seafoam like 2 weeks ago and the car was running really good for about 2 days and i got CEL P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)
 
Yea speaking of o2's. Instead of clearing my CEL with the scantool, this time I disconnected the battery and reconnected it. Ran the piss out of the car for like 20 mins straight this afternoon, hasnt came back yet.
So if my CEL comes bank for Bank 1 Too Rich, then I dunno what the f*** else to change.

2 new o2's and new MAF,intake,wga,bov, soon thunder mani.... come on protege.

information from other forum members always has to be taken with a grain of salt. so much misinformation and flat out lies.


since the car runs jsut as it did before, i would recommend resetting the CEL and see if it comes back.



come to think of it, i just read your post again. i had the exact same code several months ago. occassionally while idling, my a/f creeps up and if i blip the throttle it goes back to stoich. i reset the cel and it never came back. i did not have any issues with idle or anything else.

are you still running the upgraded turbo and no ems?
 
I'm beginning to think more and more it's just a hiccup and that when I cleared my misfire CEL two days ago (and presumably the pending codes as well) that it didn't take hold as mentioned above. I'm going to disconnect the battery and check everything I can short of pulling things apart, add some seafoam to the gas tank and see what happens. Like I said, this happened once before in the same manner (threw the code but no running difference) so hopefully it's the same case. As for other members' accounts it appears that most, if not all involved vacuum or exhaust leaks of some sort. I know the first time I threw this code I was missing a stud on the s/j pipe connection but that one registered on my wideband. Guess there really isn't too much more of a point in speculating until I check everything. I really don't care about the CEL considering the car is running fine - I just don't like seeing that damn light on the dash every time I start it up. State inspections people don't like those either...
 
got my fmic on today just need to get the bpv hooked back up and figure out what to do with my air intake temp sensor.
 
other than a CEL from misfiring from a fried coil i can has no problems. mpi dana tuning ftw.

reguardless of if you ran the piss out of it for 20mins or not p0171 is a two trip logic code so you need to complete 2 FULL drive cycles for it to set which can take several days to complete sometimes it not more.

I occasionally have p0171 pop up as a code on my car i am thinking it may have to do with the bad msp tune and that i upped my boost. But usually i just drive and it clears itself again
 
Yea, i know that light could come back on I'm not getting excitied yet. But last time I reset it twice with the scantool, the CEL came back on real quick, like 15-30 minutes it was back on.

And yes still got the turbo upgrade. Now I can't get ems though with the CEL on. I hope it don't come back.

My dumb ass friends are trying to get me to turn up the boost to mix with the too much fuel, but I can't afford a blown motor right now. Got the Home Depot boost controller ready to go hoses on it already just need to connect it but you know how that usually turns out.
 
If u have a code like that that comes and goes, it can be the primary 02. Mine used to come on for a week or 2 then go away for months then it eventually happened more often. I didnt have any signs or anything, just the light. The voltage just has to be off slightly for it to think its lean, since ur interupting the 02 signal with the afc, you might not notice it as much.

I replaced mine and it fixed it. But thats just my account.

Im glad u dont listen to them. Turning up the boost to compensate for extra fuel is just such a bad idea lol
 
I share the opposite view, i dont care much for wingless. thats not to say i think your car looks bad, but i like winged better. but thats why its just my opinion. I still love you though. :)

Put it in the neck of the filter, just drill a 3/4" hole and put the stock grommit in. thats what i did. works like a charm.

ordering dg lip today =D

I think that lip is hands down the best one for the car. I didnt like the msp stock one so i took it off. I know my paint will never match (i wont do a cf one either) so im not getting the dg one but your car will look awesome with it.
