What have you done to your MS3 today?

Well my car always runs sluggish after mods that require resetting the ECU. So the "first impression" thing doesn't really work for me. Felt slow after my TMIC, my intake, my inlet . . . but im putting down 300whp so all is well.

should I reset the ECU then?

You should reset your ecu when you install a mod that will affect your engine performance.

Disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so, then reconnect. Drive nice for a bit (some say 50miles some say 100miles). I drive nice for 15 minutes and all seems well. Your car will be re-learning fuel trims in this time period.

Then you should be good to go! Your car will also relearn if you don't reset the ecu I believe, but resetting it gives it a fresh slate.

I reset my ecu when I do a change that will drastically change the A/F ratios. The intake / inlet requires you to reset the ecu as per the instructions. But I also reset it for my intercooler. No need for the mid pipe, catback, or bpv.

Installed my tails after they've been sprayed.

They look really good besides the crack in them (not visible in the photo). Here are some pictures, they are a bit dark and I'm planning to put LED tail bulbs in ASAP to increase the light diffusion. I'm leaving the 3rd brake light alone for now as well.

All pictures are taken in an overcast/glare situation. In the dark they are just about as bright as stock.

both terminals? obviously you disconnect the negative while youre working on it, it took a good two hours

Just the negative. If you had it disconnected while you were working on it, congratulations. You have just successfully reset your ecu :)

wooo. Hawtness!

anybody else take advantage of the nice east coast weather today and clean off some of the snow/salt grime? I drove my speed3 for the first time since christmas this past week, felt good to get her out of the garage, but man was it dirty!

also ordered some continental extremecontact all seasons to replace my drag slick stockers. Almost went with the hankook summers but couldnt resist the tread durability of the all season tires.

oh abso-*******-lutely yes. went to the newark car warsh and a civic si (snicker) had to park super close to me when i was out of the wash hand drying so we each had to squeeze around the other.

and other than that time i saw you parked on main st. with a ticket in the window i've yet to see you actually driving around. and i just recently put a set of goodyear eagle gt's on mine to replace the 32k mile potenzas

Good call on the tires, this one pretty much dominates the UHP all-season category now. I've tested these tires on an M3 and I think the all-season over summer is worth it for the extra wear while giving up the slightest bit of dry grip...and a little more in the wet. I'll probably get these tires when my BFG Supersport A/S's give up.

Street Unit engine mount

Installing the SU new one piece rear mount was easier and faster than doing an oil change. The mount made a HUGE difference. The car actually moves off the line without having to wait for the engine to stop shifting back and forth. Shifting is greatly improved and the shifter actually feels more solid. Handling and feel through cornering seem improved as well. There are very minimal increased vibrations, but mostly only at idle. This is the easiest and most inexpensive mod that I've done and the only one that isn't going to add power, but it just may have made the biggest difference of all. So far I have the MSCAI, CP-e turbo inlet, SU TMIC, COBB DP, HKS CBE and the Cobb AP stage 2+tune. All these have been great mods, but not cheap. This mount wasn't nearly as pricey as any thing I've done so far but it may have created the most noticeable difference for the better. This mount makes the car more fun to drive, feel sportier and gives you more of a connected feel to the road. My only regret is that I didn't buy this mount sooner.
