What have you done to your MS3 today?

In your sig. it says you are running an AP on 19 psi. There is something wrong if your AP is reading 23.4 psi. Thats 4.4 psi more than its tuned for, and like 9 more than factory...

no, the car and ap are fine. Now the tuning of this vehicle and ecu are beyond me, but it is my understanding that the 19ish psi is where boost happens to hold due to selected wastegate duty%'s at a given engine speed, which in my case is maxed out around 4800rpms to redline. Since the car works on tq targets, boost is not as important as whether or not the car reaches the amount of tq it requests, so boost can vary. I only make that much boost if I apply full throttle @4000ish rpms. Maybe the small turbo builds boost too fast for the stock wastegate spring at that engine speed allowing overboost? I'm not really sure, but the engine sounds healthy at that level of boost and I seem to be making enough fuel pressure to support it. If I drive like a dyno run, meaning starting @2000rpms-7000rpms, boost ramps up slowly and controlled, peaking at just below the 20psi mark. Thoughts?

how often are you on the highway? I have to do about 8 miles on the highway each way to school, plus a few more, but thats off the highway. Plus, although this should really affect chipping, I put a coat of wax on em to keep them from getting sun damage

i travel from college to home every weekend which is about 45 miles of highway. so 90 miles a week plus any time i go out somewhere like to eat its another good 11 miles away from the university i attend. my college is in farm country so highway is a daily occurrence.

I installed the prosport boost gauge today and it's off by 4lbs or so has anyone else had this issue? Is this something that can be taken care of or am I stuck with this issue?

Overboosting? Wrong vac/boost line(not sure how you'd do that)? Or maybe(probably) a faulty gauge? I bought a sunsport(or maybe its sunpro, don''t remember it came from autozone lmao) $25 vac/boost gauge, never had a single problem with it. I just wish it was a little bigger so I could mount in a vent or a regular pod. But it does what I need it to. Goes to 30lbs vac and 20 lbs boost.... For 25 bucks... I really can't complain

It's off by -4 I called prosport and they said it's due to altitude being that I live in Salt Lake, UT. They suggested to go to a mechanical one. No wonder I ran defi in my subie.

My Prosport electric boost gauge is off by about -2 psi. I live around Atlanta, so I don't think altitude is an issue.

I called them again and they are sticking to it just trying to get me to buy a mechanical one off of them now saying that it will fix it. I'll just deal with it until I decide what route to take. A lot of people here in Salt Lake use them and don't have that issue, so I don't understand how they came to that conclusion. I think it's a bad sending unit and so does everyone that's looked at it.

Apparently you're both off by -2, because atmospheric pressure should only be about 2psi below sea level pressures. Salt lake is ~4400ft. so -2psi at sea level from the gauges being wrong, and -2psi from being at altitude...

That makes sense, thanks I appreciate you checking into that. Now I just gotta weigh my options on what to do, I'll probably just go to a different gauge. At least it was only $50 haha.

got my Cobb AP today. Installed AP mangager and updater. Currently..it is saving the stock ECU map and installing v105 Stg1 SF 91oct for 2009 MS3

bout ******* time!!!

i updated my sig, occ will be installed tomorrow

haha. Just waited for a killer deal. worth the wait. No for a drive (easy to modertate) for now. Let the map settle in and my trims calm down. Trims look good @ idle BTW @ -2.3

Got my stock shift weight PC'd to match some other black pieces under the hood. Also snapped a couple pics of my Saikou Michi OCC kit from Matt Damond (don't mind the water in the undertray - just got back from a rainy drive):

Pretty straightforward. Hardest part was taking off the stock PCV. Not much room up there to exert the force you need to get it off. Once that's off, it's downhill from there. I'd say a 5 out of 10 as far as ease of install.

O wait. (cabpatch)

Today, I Damplified my front doors, and installed my Alpine SPX17 woofers (tweets have been in for a while). The hard plastic inner lining in our doors has a horrible midrange resonance, but I covered it with enough deadener to kill most of that. I also replaced that rubber diaphragm thingy with 2 layers of Damplifier over the hole. Starting to sound pretty darn good in there...

What did you use go get the stock pcv off?

Mostly used my hands, but I recall using a flathead screwdriver and pliers at some point to start the process of breaking it free. It almost sounded like snapping into a Slim Jim when the seal started coming undone.

standard oil change (thank you break in the weather!), got rid of that pesky brake squeal i had for the past couple hundred miles, and did a nice little seafoam treatment via brake booster and father-in-law keeping the revs up. mine was NOTHING like the ones i've seen in a couple youtube vids, even after 30k miles. and rotated the tires, for theeee last time (looking at the goodyear eagle gt)

after that (my other vehicle isn't a mazda alert!) i did the wife's tacoma oil and seafoam treatment. and my next project is to install a new pressure plate because of the amount of chatter in the stock one. just gotta find someone with a lift and something to help drop the trans

What kind of fuel/oil do you use? I'm curious to see if these dramatic seafoam results are from drivers who use 91 (or lower) and conventional oil. I'm assuming that your engine wasn't especially clogged up?

first change i did i went to synthetic. used mobil1 for a while until that storm went through the texas plant that put the kaibosh on supply. so at that point i went to penzoil platinum and have used it since then

i also fill up with 93 octane.

there was smoke, but it was not as thick and not as lasting as this one. i'd say maybe about 50% of that

i used about half a can and turned the engine off and let sit for 5 minutes. then i started her back up and did some revs and WOT blips
