What have you done to your Mazda6 today?

Egg residue is also a huge no-no on your paint.

Water spots and sun are bad, but most modern cars will hold up if you keep them washed somewhat frequently. If you neglect your paint at all, then you're asking for trouble.

I recommend that you keep some quick detailer and a rag handy in case you get bombed by a sky rat or some other flying animal. It's quick, painless, and protects your paint for the long haul.
 
Hmm sounds like im screwed no matter what I do :). Bird s*** really isn't a big problem. I can actually park between 2 trees so I get shade and avoid crap that falls. The issue is the sprinklers come on at night and douse half my car.

Got my big box of detailing supplies last night, and put the DA together. Plenty of pads to choose from, and assorted polishes and waxes to get the job done. If the weather holds out, I'll do it on Sat.
 
Steve, let us know how it goes. I know mine could use a polish, but I'm a little afraid to attempt it myself. It does sound like a nice way to spend a day though!

On a side note, I'm looking for a little project to work on, and have been considering the airbox mod, but don't know if I should bother since I have an SRI planned. Is there any step in this process (removing the resonator or something?) that would apply to the installation of an SRI as well, or would I just have to change things back later? Also, I'd like to retain the stock parts in case I need to put it back sometime far down the road, so I don't want to cut or destroy anything...

Will do OJ. I'm a little nervous myself, but I'm doing the research and I think I have a good plan. A lot of it comes down to pad and polish choices. You can mix and match so many different ways that you can do nothing or do a lot, just by tweaking one of those. I'll be using a CCS blue pad and Meg's M205 to start on the spiderwebbing, then move on to a sealant, then last Natty's Blue wax.

might as well get some stuff out before the SRI install... that way you wont have to take your bumper off again!

No cuts needed. Remove the bumper. Pull the stock airbox out. unbolt the intake resonator located under the airbox. Now remove the tuba, as well as two plastic pieces from inside the box (under the filter).

reconnect bumper, re-install airbox with said pieces removed and voila! prepped for SRI, no bumper removal needed. And your box is opened up for much better air flow.

steve, i have the Cobra Cross Groove Flex Foam 6.5 Pads for my PC 7424..

they are better then the traditional foam pads.. i bought them through autogeek.net.. these pads are alittle different then CCS, for any swirl remover, and even deep scratches i tend to use the orange pad, then follow that up in order of pad color but ive always skipped the grey pad.. blue seems to work better for me.. always use the red for the final coats of wax.. theres really nothing to be nervous about when doing all of this.. u cant burn your paint with the 7424 and as long as you use the pads and material for what they were designed for you'll do just fine.

Well, after class today, took some time to look at my options for the new car again. Drove a 2SS Camaro, Challenger RT with Track Pack, and another 2010 GT. Priced them all out, how I would want them, and the Mustang is still the cheapest and offers all the options and then some (like the nav screen, SYNC, etc.) Challenger was comfortable, but heavy and slow, and the Camaro....wtf! Horrible design execution and piss-poor interior.

So, I've decided on everything, just figuring out some things at work and down payment and then I'll get the ball rolling.
 
Tried to figure out why my shifter was so tough...
Anyone else ever have a family of mice living in their car? One dead one when I removed the skid plate (Squished and burned, prolly the reason why the shifter wasnt working right) then I found another under the air filter along with a nest and a few babies.

Living in PA is awesome!
