Bearing failure within 35,000 miles? That's pitiful. Mazda has some pretty serious QC problems right now. It's weird how most of these problems seem isolated to very few people. I really hadn't planned on an extreme bumper-to-bumper examination before the warranty was up, but I just changed my mind.

Took the 5 in to get the bearing replaced. They call me after a few hours to tell me the axle is fused as well. I guess my 3300 mile road trip was on a bad bearing and it welded it together. So now I need a new axle as well, which won't be in till tomorrow. Got a crown vic for a rental. This whole situation is not giving me very much confidence to keep the 5 for a long time like I was hoping to.

I'd bet the wheel bearing is not made by Mazda, so to chalk it up to the vehicle manufacturer may not be completely fair. The C1 platform is popular wordwide.
Yesterday, I ordered the fender liners and a half-dozen of the (wildly overpriced) screws and backing nuts that hold the bumper cover to those fender liners, since the ones that were on there were lost as the liners disintegrated against the tires and the street.
Total for repair: (assuming I have everything I need now) $670.
Vs. the $500 deductible and the continued screwing the insurance company would inflict on us for probably several more years, this is still probably a net win.

Almost the same km here. 2006 GT. I decided to go for their recommended transmission fluid flush/replacement. Warranty and payment ends in July. Warranty repair so far was for a shorted block heater.
I'm not hearing the road noise for quite a while now.

So, the bearing is fixed, but now the brakes are squishy and the rear suspension squeaks. Going back in monday. Also got a fix it ticket for my tint on the front windows. No tint is allowed on the front in MI. my friday the 13th went well...
I did go and order some continental extreme contact dws tires in 215/50r17s today. They will be put on sat morning.

Remove factory wheel locks for regular acrons. The 90s have ended and I don't think people are out to steal OEM rims. Make tire change much easier without having to fumble for a key.

New sway bar bushings installed and brakes bled. much better now, and so far, nothing new to report. Hopefully she will last like this till 100,000 miles.
Oh, and got new tires the other day before getting my tint removed.
Continental extreme contact dws in 215/50R17s. Soooo much quieter.
She needs a bath but it wont stop raining here.
Also, i think the wheel bearing wasnt mazdas fault... but the dealers. At around 11K they had to drop the transmission since the casing wasnt sealed completely and it was oozing fluid. They had to have taken the axles off at that point. After that was all completed i was getting a funny clunk in the front passenger wheel. They replaced sway bushings, control arms, and calipers (since it would clunk when braking), but to no avail. So now with the new wheel bearing and axle shaft, there is no more clunking. I think they didnt put the axle in correctly or something causing the wheel to be off and ruin the bearing.
At least it was discovered before the end of the warranty, and now everything seems to be all right.

Dealership bled them, as they screwed them up in the first place.
215/50s are where it is at.

Yeah it was kind of hard, but the panel came right off with some prying. Getting the lights out was the hardest part. I couldn't get them out easy, I ended up unlatching the outside covers from the inside and just pulling them out. They wouldn't unscrew from the inside. Hopefully I never have to do it again with the LEDs in there lol.

I got the same tires but stayed w/ the stock size. great tires, quiet, lots of grip in dry and wet, but seem like they are more prone to drift to the right because of the crown on the road. not sure if its from the tires, but its done it ever since I got them.
