What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Just about to hit 51k miles. Front brakes still showed as "yellow" on the inspection sheet they printed out. Rears were red.

I agree. Seemed pretty quick to me. Invoice just said full synthetic 0W20 oil change and new filter. I should have asked which oil they used (I assumed the Castrol).

Thanks for the pricing tip.
Most Mazda dealers use Castrol.

When I had auto business few years ago, I'd be mad at my employee if it took an hour for the above service. Are you kidding me? The report with found deficiencies should have been down at the office by the time the oil filter was out. At that point the wheels should have been off for quite a while, and the oil would have had enough time to drain. Not sure what your expectation is for a good inspection though.. Take another hour? I'm sure they could have taken their time to get back to you. While the car sitting down the hoist ready for a whistle.

$333.44 for rear brakes? Whew wee, that's high! You should be able to get front and rear done for that, and put close to $100 in ya pocket. Those brakes plus places aren't bad if you have one around...

You'll be surprised. Dealers use the cheapest possible bulk oil they can find. I've asked several Mazda dealers in DFW area none of them uses Castrol. My dealer, Town North Mazda, uses "Preferred Choice" brand 0W-20 full synthetic but do use Mazda moly if you ask for it with $10 extra.

But you do need to add about $50 for brake fluid flush ⋯ ;)

Actually, the brake flush is a quite time-consuming job, even if you use fancy vacuum -driven one-person-job tools. To do it right you need to hook up Mazda - compatible scanner to engage ABS in the flush. Without that, it's incomplete job. So $50 does not sound all that enticing to me at all.

I actually included a $50 cushion in my estimate for whatever, however, I wouldn't even worry about a flush job (does the maintenance plan call for it, it shouldn't), as long as the fluid is pretty much clear and full, you're good to go, and an unnecessary add on imo. I guess if you wanted too, this would be my own and only time if it made you feel more at ease...

Bit of a noob here, but guessing there's a way for me to check it?

Mazda dealer charges $109.95 for brake fluid flush. Of course for $50, Brake Plus won't hook up Mazda scanner to flush the brake fluid.

I do all maintenance by myself with only OEM parts. But I always suggest friends and family go to dealer for maintenance and repair work, although be smart and don't get rip off too much. Choosing a good and honest service department of a dealer is very important!

Maybe I should swallow my pride and go back to the old service department even though they have new douchnozzle owners (yes I'm still drinking the bitter-aide on losing the free oil changes). If they still have the same folks working there, they were a very good service department.

You've gotta check with service advisor if the'd do ABS flush as well. Not many would do.Then go have a smoke with the mechanic to see if they really did. I don't smoke anymore, but that's how you get your info...

No. $233 for new pads and resurfacing the rotors? Damn. That's not bad. Pads are at least $50. Time spent removing rotors and sanding them down? $233? That's not bad at all. Plus $109 to flush? You might save $50 at a smaller shop....but not much more. Every dealer I've ever asked won't even shave your rotors. They'll tell you that you need new. $333 is not a rip-off.

Nobody said it was a rip-off, although when you pay double for something, it can be considered as so... Like stated, you can get all 4 done for that at a Brakes Plus place, so yes, it is rather high to say the least, but for a stealership, it's a honest price, unfortunately for most...

I'd be blown away if someone offered to do 4 pads for $100. I gotta find a Brakes Plus.

Brakes for less. They even do an extra 15% off on Wednesdays. Imagine that...opening one in Cinn, OH soon. Maybe think about CLE...
