I've been reading this forum since I purchased my MSP back in early October. I will say that there's more chaos in this forum (particularly MSP) than other forums I've read.
I appreciate that there are subfolders for some of the more item-specific topics/questions, but there's at least one missing that I think should be created - intake. While forced induction is good enough to handle question about turbos, I'd dare say that questions on what intake is better and how do I make my own custom, blah blah blah comprise > 5% posts in the MSP forum (no I didn't count, but it's a guess based on what I've read).
I think the mods could do a better job on moving and deleting useless threads and quite honestly, I think the mods should make the final decision on where a thread should live (it shouldn't be open to discussion - that's why we have experienced mods).
One of the things I found helpful on other boards (i.e. NASIOC) and the v6accord.net (now v6performance.net) was to have a separate section for FAQs. The FAQs were organized by particular type of mod, and much more thorough and better organized than some of the FAQs we have. Some of ours have bunches of information posted by one person and then 15 replies asking questions on some of the information. All of that should be collapsed into the main faq for that area.
Couple other suggestions:
1) limit size/length of sigs - most are too damn long!!!
2) remove [pics from] sigs for archived/closed threads. If the thread is no longer active, we don't need to waste screen space and server disk space with peoples' sigs.
3) Allow searches to be shorter than three letters or less!!!
4) Be more aggressive about archiving older/closed threads
5) Post counts are useless; karma points (i.e. on slashdot) are better. A person can have 10000 posts yet still be an idiot (such as myself) and not contribute anything valuable to the forum. People who make valuable contributions should be rewarded by clearly denoting their position in the forum.
6) Require that all posts be checked for proper spelling (noob is not a real word, neither is kewl or any shiznit like that)
Thanks for reading...
Ben
P.S. Pardon my run-on sentences. It's late, I'm tired, and I have a cat on my chest.
