well, I guess you see which one I voted for : "too many bad /useless threads"

Not to say it's a bad board, but the correct option wasn't listed
"too many ricer teenagers talking s*** in their own language"

Other than that I like this board.

I like it and it serves its purpose well. Information sharing!

The forum is great place to get ideas and see what and what does not work.

I would change a thing! JMO.

I voted for the too many bad/useless threads, but I kind of mean it in a less harsh manner. Maybe it is because I am used to a smaller board, but it seems like the section fills up too fast with a ton of threads.

If I'm away for more than a day there are like 4 pages to try and leaf through just to find half a dozen threads that have any value to me (MazdaSpeed specific performance mods). Same reason that I don't go to the rest of the forum much, a lot of it doesn't pertain to me.

Who knows, maybe nothing can be done. The forum is far from bad or poorly managed. Barring some major disaster, I'll probably still be lurking around here.

Where to start!

I guess the good things.

1. Info- Great Resource. Huge Archives. I can search for anything, and find what im looking for.

2. Fun. Its fun to be able to communicate with other MSP owners. Share stories, problems, etc.

3. Size. Lots of diversity, and range of opinions and knowledge.

Negatives-

1. Threads- the MSP forum is really disorganized. No one searches for the stuff. Too many threads posted asking for the same thing as 2 days ago.

2. Flaming- I do it, i'll admit it, but mostly out of frustration about the posting of pointless threads. Other people flame people for their ideas. I try not to do this, and if i can help, i will offer insight.

3. Organization- Sub forums for the MSP would be AWESOME. Stickies help, but like Dexter said, no one who should read them does. Who else saw the winter tire thread before it was edited? That is a GREAT example of all the flaws this site has.

I could go into MUCH greater detail, but i think thats a good start.

I'll post more if i think of it.

I love the site, its the best MSP resource on the net I can find, from info about the car, to vendors, etc, but it needs some help.

For starters I love the forum (likes):
1) great source of information.
2) excelent help and opinions for the most part (as long as it is MSP related)
3) It's a lot of fun to read and communicate with other MSP owners, ect. (I spend a large portion of my day reading this board mostly at work)

The things that could be improved (dislikes):
1) Needs more organization (sub folders would be great)
2) The flaming, although the ones reffering to the search button are ok.

I like the forum. The thing that bugs me is having many threads about the same thing. I'm an organization and neat freak about stuff like that normally but I don't sweat it really. Pointless threads don't make a difference to me because they eventually get buried. However I do know that they must be sitting somewhere taking up room on a server. I have started to think more when posting replies now

1 is my reply going to just repeat something that has already been said? (this is important to reenforce an idea somtimes)

2 Will my reply contribute anything to the individual thread itself.

3 will my reply contribute to the forum

edit: Is this only pertaining to the mazdaspeed section of the forum or is this thread also in the wrong place?

Just regarding the Mazdaspeed forum please.

I voted personality.....

I DO think there are alot of useless threads, however I believe alot of them stem from NooB questions that can't be avoided in ANY forum setup. No need to flame Noobs, they will learn how things work. If not, THEN flame them :D I always treat new people as if they have never been in a forum environment, because it does take some learning.

Secondly I think a majority of people in the forum are good at keeping the pointless threads short. If it's a repost or dumb thread it usually gets a few responses and then drops off.

In summary, I love this forum, although I will admit I have been posting more in Local and off topic lately.

I agree with everything people have posted so far. The pages do fill up fast with a lot of repetitive posts. There are some posts that I would agree with the "too many ricer teenagers talking s*** in their own language" comment. I guess it could use a little more organization but I wouldn't want to see tons of separate forums.

My main problem with the board is that with every computer I check it on after a while it freezes. If I look at task manager the CPU usage is at 100% and Internet Explorer is the only thing running. I constantly have to close the browser and start over. Anyone else have this problem??

Its not particularly friendly at times. Other times, you get some great help from great people.

I dont really analyze a forum that much...i just come on here when i need to and try and contribute when i can....more important things to worry about i suppose

I think the tolerance threshold for flaming people should be a little lower and that mods should be held to an even higher standard. Maybe something clearly explaining expectations for the forum- if you guys think there are too many crappy posts, come up with a good, easily understood posting policy that's prominently posted- like as a sticky as the 1st thread permanently, in flashing bold letters or something. I know there is something up there, but I doubt a lot of folks read it, and even if they do, enforcement is spotty.

There are how many MSP's on earth? Deduct for folks who aren't or aren't really online, folks who are too busy, folks who don't know about the board and so on- that eliminates quite a few. I don't think the board can afford to alienate too many MSPer's that find their way here. I was more or less driven away from this board right when I got here by a couple of knuckleheads until enough cool folks made me realize that this is a very good place if you just ignore the bad.

The moderation on this board is by far the least I've experienced... I'm a moderator on another forum and I'd be deleting posts all day on the MSP forum.

I see youthful people that have found a place with freedom and no fear of getting caught. So, they throw around tons of insults and attitude.... I don't know how many times I've read "STFU, dude"
This is a board that is full of young boys and some girls. Children need rules and boundaries. I think that would help more than anything. If someone posts something aggressive and not useful to the original topic; it's deleted, end of story. Eventually, things will tone down.

One other thing that I'd tone down is signatures... Most signatures are longer than posts. Just seems silly but, that's not a big deal.

Clearly, a big deal is posting a lot. I think this stems from youth. You've been under your parent's rule for so long, you want to be heard. So, MSP forum, here I come!!! I doubt you'll be able to change that.

I also see a lot of laziness, awful grammar and spelling, and other stuff that I can't stand. But, that's people... I don't expect that to change. ;)

I personally hardly ever visit the MSP section. I, like many others, simply go by the most active threads list on the right of the main forum. One of the "problems" I personally had when I first found this site was that I bookmarked the MSP section (instead of the main one) which made things a bit confusing... at first I didn't even realize there WAS another section to go to! Though I wasn't sure I'd really "get it"... I'm glad this board has Protege/P5/III and even some 6 and MPV members!! I voted for the "too many useless threads" option... but I generally feel censorship is wrong. I mean, we don't HAVE to read or add to these useless/unnecessary threads... but we usually do!! Overall, though it's a bit "cluttered" I feel it's about as good as it can be... which really kills me since I'm constantly looking for ways to improve things!! with that said...

Avatars are cool and all but... often times they don't TRULY reflect the person behind them. I mean, how many GUYS out there have hot chicks for their avatars?!! Don't get me wrong... I like hot chicks as much as the next guy but... I think it would be better if the avatar (and general area) had a little more about the person... other than of course their post count!! (side note: how some people are able to get into the 4000+ range is beyond me!) To prove I'm not all talk... I'm gonna take my Voltron one down and post a picture of myself... though Voltron's much better looking, I feel it may add something to be able to put a face to the words.) corny I know.... as I said above, this is a bit of a stretch! but hey... had to put something!!

one more idea before I eat dinner (at 10:30pm no less!! gotta love Christmas shopping!!) In this day and age... we should all be able to get our hands on a digital camera and take at least one good picture of our rides... then perhaps post them in our signatures. I realize most of you have already done this... but many (including myself) have not. I mentioned before censoring is wrong... so is comformism! (unless there's a point to it!) I'm the last person to tell someone what to do but... maybe if we have some type of incentive it could fly. with ebay for example, they assign various differnt levels to it's big sellers.... hmm... second thought, disregard everything I just said! combine 5 hours in the #$%#ing mall with a stomach that's growling louder than Starvin Russians ridiculous getup and you've got a bunch of gibberish.

This board rules! Carry on...

Personally, I think the mods need to put their foot down and start moving threads to their proper forum. Subfolders are not needed YET...not enough traffic to warrant them IMO.

Every time a post like this is made, the mods do their job and move threads for a few days, and things are good...but a week or two later and it's back to the way it was before, or even worse.

That said, there is NO way that all of the stupid, repeated questions will be stopped. You could program in a feature that popped up a message box displaying all the FAQ's about MSP's in bright flashing colors...people would STILL ignore it and post 'how much can I boost my MSP with a boost controller...i want a mad f4ster ride yo,' Every time I hear that I want to say 'Boost as much as you want, the block can handle it' (hey it's somewhat true :p the block could probably handle it, but you'd throw a rod long before testing the limits of the block)

Anyways, there are things that may help.

My suggestions?

1. More moderators. This is the busiest forum on the board (well not counting the off-topic/humor/flamewars forums). If the 6 moderators aren't able to keep up with all of the threads, then more are needed. Honestly, I think adding another 4-6 moderators would help immensely.

*edit* The MSP forum IS the busiest on the board..I thought Off-Topic would beat it out, but was wrong. Also, forgot to mention that some of the moderators of the MSP forum also moderate other sections. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course, but it just further indicates the need for more MSP mods */edit*

2. Keep the 'Mega MSP info' stick thread intact, but sticky all of the threads that are linked in it. People are too lazy to look through one thread to find a link to the thread they want to see. Sad? Yes. But this might limit some of the repetitive posts.

My other comments?

Signatures and avatars don't bother me, if they bother you turn them off in your personal options.

Flaming will happen on any message board. Some people complain about 'all of the flaming here' but this board is TAME compared to most.

i agree with some of the other people about the kids and the Riceanomics. its alot about rice and very little about performance.
I personally think it needs to be more like FocalJet.com or Team Nabr or even DSMTooners. (dsmtuners.com)
