What do YOU do about road rage?

Best bet is to avoid further confrontation, and call the police. If someone were trying to make me crash into them like that, I'd either drive quickly away (dangerous, not the best option, could get pulled over for speeding/reckless) or get in the right lane, put on my hazards, and slow down. They'll get real tired of harassing you when they realize they're doing 40MPH on the freeway, and everyone is honking at them trying to pace you in the middle lane. Oh, and you absolutely need to call 911. Especially if this went on for 20 MILES(!) the cops could have easily gotten someone to you.

I don't know why, but my wife seems to be a magnet for this kind of s***. It happens to her way too often, and she never seems to know why. I keep telling her to call the cops, especially since she's had people get out of their cars and approach hers.

sounds like... you wife may have something to do with it.. if she is a "magnet" but i dont know.. were you ever with her when said such incedent occured? if so was she at fault? i dunno... kinda like when soem one is prone to speeding tickets but they dont know why lol

Given the nature of people these days its best to ignore them and get away from them. You don't want to be in a situation to where they can cause harm to you or others.

Now unfortunately that may not always work. That's when you need to pull out your gun and take them out. When they try to use their car as a weapon and have crossed the point of going beyond flashing headlights and honking to swerving into your lane and attempting to stop in front of you its game over as far as I am concerned.

Harsh, but so is the potential of some lunatic causing you and others harm because you invaded their imaginary space.

I've never been in the car with her when it happened, so I'll have to reserve judgement as to who's fault it is. But, yeah, it's probably her! ;)

So what do YOU guys do in situations like that, when you're faced with a complete crackhead? I was an inch away from calling the police. That woman was a ******* nutcase.

TOG

Testicals on Glass.

Very diffucult in a standard though, thats why I have an automatic truck now

A friend of mine used to keep a brick under the driver's seat. Someone'd start pulling s*** like this, he'd hold it out the window in a threatening manner. Dipstick-ery would cease...

Haven't had anything like this happen to me, but I have the OHP DUI ph# in my phone for such an occasion.

Cindy - next time call 911. Tell them where you are (milemarker info, etc.), what the person is doing, give them the car/tag info, etc.
That actually did cross my mind -- but the sad thing is, I couldn't get out my phone and keep all my attention on the woman to avoid getting hit. And I didn't want to pull over, cause God forbid the woman would stop as well -- with a gun and blow my head off or something.

I normally drive with my phone right in my cupholder, but for whatever reason, I didn't pop it in there when I got in my car. Just forgot, I guess. Stupid.

Not to mention that there's always the chance that when the cops come .. they'll immediately look at me for the blame. After all, I'm a younger person in a 'hooked up' car .. versus a late-30's/early-40's woman in a minivan .. so I'm automatically at fault.

hahahahaha(cabpatch)

I take my phone out of my purse and leave it in the cupholder while I'm driving - plus I've got a bluetooth thingy that I use when I'm in the car. Makes it a lot easier and safer than trying to find your phone in a purse while driving.

With my luck, I'd wave the brick in a threatening manner, it'd slip out of my hand, slide grindingly down the side of my car, bounce off the asphalt and cause untold damage to my poor MSP. :p

Sorry Cindy, most drivers nowadays are just retarded.

matter of fact, just yesterday I jumped on 95 north to go back to work. A bus is infront of me (a short bus, not that it matters) and proceeds to stay in the righthand lane doing 50-55mph. I signal and move into the lane to my left and speed up to pass. like 10 secs later the bus signals to move into my lane (Im now directly next to him) and starts to come over. I had to move over to the left a little to avoid getting hit when he finally notices Im there. He then proceeds to lay on his horn, like it was MY FAULT. And this is a school bus driver? Um, WTF.

I just sped off.

Ive only had a few serious incidences. All but one, nothing was done wrong by any induvidual.

The one time I did do something wrong, I was driving my dad's explorer. Some asshat in an 80's cutlass supreme was driving without his lights on @ night. I needed to get in the right hand lane to turn onto another road, and inadvertanly cut his ass off (he was in my blind spot). I returned to my other lane to let him back over (he was on the shoudler honking and turned on his lights) and we hit the redlight @ the intersection. H proceeds to part diagonally across my lane to block me from leaving. Gets out, and starts yelling @ me to turn my cellphone off and drop it out of the window. Hes also screaming all this other s*** @ me. I looked @ him like he was crazy and he gets even more pissed. The light turned green, I I decided to just hop the median to my left (that he was standing on) and go around his car. Caught him totally by suprise... he was soo close to my car @ that point that the car actually knocked him back when I went around him. He had the most priceless, stunned look on his face. I swear he stood there the entire time just staring @ me as I drove off.

Few tips -

- drive away from road ragers, just dont become dangerous yourself.
- if you cant drive away, call the cops
- and NEVER go back to your house if you feel they are following you home. Drive past it, or into a completely different neighborhood to see if they are infact following you (by this time they might get the hint). Depending on your area, just drive into a police station parking lot. They tend not to follow in there.

Ooooh, that one's good. I prolly never would've thought of it.

One of my friends in California is a fireman - he told me they're a good place to go if you need any kind of help, be it crazy roadragers, a medical emergency (since they've got EMTs), etc.

OP, I think you did it right. I've only had one case and it was a dude stopped at a red light looking around in his vehicle and I waited a good 5 seconds and beeped my horn as softly as I could (I have an aftermarket horn) he looked up and went along but giving me the finger all the way around the corner of his turn. It wasn't anything big, just kinda like "Wtf? I let you know it's time to move...my bad? ass hole *LOL* "

As far as road rage like real road rage I think A) I own this road, I'm the car enthusiast, your mini van is gunna flip" B) Just go into active driver mode and if they want I can tap their mirror with mine enough to not even make a scratch then I'll roll down my window and have a conversation with them at 60mph

In this situation...I probably would have fallen back behind her and followed her...

I ignore the othe driver and pretend they dont exist, they hate that, they get more agravated and it's always funny Or I will give them a really weird look like they are retarded or something which they are.

I just had an incident coming back from lunch today.

I was traveling down a highway, two lanes in each direction. I was doing 70 in a 55 (definitely speeding) and was in the right lane. I came up behind a car and after seeing nobody in the rearview turned into the left hand to pass. I was halfway past the car in the right lane when I looked in the rearview and a newish white Escalade was right behind me flashing his lights. I sped up to 80 and got into the right lane, and he sped up quickly at first and then slowed down to pace me (at 75-80 mph.) I looked over and it's some spoiled thug wannabe with a lot of bling looking like he was yelling obscenities at me. He then floored it and up the road came up behind a truck doing even slower than me. He turned to the right and then quickly to the left and passed between the truck on the left and a car in the right lane. He swerved back into the left lane and it looked like he almost lost it. For a second I wanted to go after him, but I said naa not worth it.

Next time someone does that I will get their plate, call the police and tail them while I stay on the phone.
