What do I need to microtech

Hey,

After reading up on standalones, I have decided to go with the Microtech.

What all do I need to have the car up and running?

1) Microtech Package From NSN or Protege Garage
2) Wide Band O2 Sensor

And from there is it plug and play with the NSN or PG package? (then setup)

Or is there more than meets the eye?

Matt

u have to wire it in the car, they give u a base map, then u tune it from there for your particular application. its not plug n play cause u have to cut and solder ecu wires.

the microtech comes with a great set of directions and a base map for you application. let us know prior to ordering what you have done or are planning on doing with the car

Hey.

I thought you guys supplied a harness with it? Or do I have to wire the whole thing?

The motor will be setup as this Intake, Header, Custom Exhaust, UDP, cams

It is a daily driver and will be a weekend auto-x warrior. Im' just sick of the terrible ECU settings from the factory and I want a little more from the car for Auto-x.

Matt

PS... that ruled!

its a protege specific harness. meaning u have to splice/and connect it into ur protege wires specified. its not that hard if ur good at soldering.

there is what they call a "flying lead harness" where you have wires coming out of the microtech that need to be wired into the factory wiring. a plug and play harness we do not have.

oh haha, thats no problem then. I'm assuming its all color coded with a legend? In that case bring it on. How many wires?

Is there anything that I will have to figure out on my own? Or are all the connections needed accounted for?

I have heard of idle control problems, charging system problems etc.

And do all the stock guages still work?

Matt

it's not hard at all to wire it up. i had no experience wiring anything other than a deck before hand. as long as you take your time, lots of labeling and planning before you cut your first wire, it will be a snap.
you'll be very happy with the extra power/response your engine will have. definitely a good upgrade for an autoxer.

yes it is color coded with a legend. ~20 wires, give or take a few. it's all fairly straight forward. steve's great when it comes to answering any questions you may have before, during and after the install. your idle may be a tad erratic and so will cruising below 2500. all that takes some time to tweak it right. no charging problems and all your gauges will work.

if you give my your e-mail addy, i'll send the instruction manual over to you so you can look it through.

And on that note I'm sold on it.

Is there anything else you guys would recommend along with it?

Oh yeah! Can I use the stock coils?

since you are staying N/A i can't truly recommend anything else. stock coils are just fine.

alright sounds pretty straight forward then...

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the information.

Now I just gotta put some funds aside. Hopefully in the following month or so while we still have nice weather here.

depends on what his plans are in the long term...

I bought the coils and X4 to future proof myself against insanity NA engine build up....

and because i had already blown one of the stock coils (on the stock ecu no less - got back from drag track, car running like old dog, opened up the hood, coil had a huge blister on top of it and it smelt funny...when i pulled it out during microtech install, it was rattling inside when shaken).
and it looks awesome in the engine bay ;)

Hey Lord Worm,

that is always something can be added down the road though no?

I'm really not looking for more than 140-150hp all said and done. And I have a strange feeling that I won't even hit that :oP. Just looking to get the car up to where she should be.

Down the road when the car is payed off it may be time for a built block and tubo setup. That won't be for a few years though.

what are you guys using for wideband o2? The microtech needs a 0-5v signal right?

is there any way to have an accurate reading or set the MT to read a 0-4v source? The matching autometer gauge to the rest of my set outputs 0-4v

Do I need to buy a whole kit with a guage, or can I just get the sensor and wire it in?

http://autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?ref=search&gid=3604

Did you add a 3rd bung on the exhaust or just replace the 2nd oem one?

Thanks guys

Its a little more than I want to spend

I'm looking at the Innovate LC-1

I'm going to use a narrow band guage since I will be tuning and logging with my laptop, it has a 0-1v output so the stock ecu won't trip a cel, as well as a 0-5v to send to the microtech

I think this is the route I am going. As I can get it for much less than the Microtech version.

well...

I'm going to buy the Innovate LC-1 and get it hooked up in the car. That way when it comes time to install the microtech, It will be a single wire hookup for the wideband signal. Lets hope the stock ECU likes the 0-1v signal that will be coming from the new system.
