Hello all,
I just bought a 01 MP3 Vivid Yellow.
My questions are can people please post pics of the stock rear sub and give there advise if its worth getting. mine was gone when i bought the car.
Also dit the Mp3 have stock rear door speakers? How could i test if they are hooked up without taking the door off. I tried the fader/balance on the head unit, but couldnt really tell. Also I am pretty sure i have the stock deck can somebody post the model number of it, so I can check. I will be upgradeing the dech here soon, anyone know of a howto on doing that. I have changed decks in several cars, but always like to learn before i do.

I have the rear clunk so I will have to get that Clunk fix kit. and I dont have the stock rims so i will try to locate a set of MSP rims. I will be posting alot more on this forum as all the other protege ones seem like ghost towns.

Oh and my last question os can somebody post a link the the MP# Brochure or post scaned color copies of it here. Thanks Matt

there are no speakers in the rear doors on mp3's. they're in the doors on protege 5s and MSPs which is why there is a spot there but they hang from the rear in the trunk. if you dont have the stock sub i wouldn't worry. buy a better one.

changing the deck out is super easy since the car is already setup for a deck. just pull out the current one and slip in a new one. piece o cake.

im attaching one of the mp3 brochures.

I figured as much on replacing the deck.
Why did they include speaker holes in the rear door panels if there are no speakers in them. Or shoud I assume that you could take the wires from the rear deck speakers and put speakers in the rear doors, and run the rear deck speakers off an amp, with rear outputs from the deck.

My concern with an aftermarket sub, is I wont have enought room for my golf clubs and cart. SO having the stock one might give me the needed base i want but also meet other needs. I put my old 12 and box in the trunk, so I wil have to put the clubs in and see how it works.

Thanks for posting that attachment.

The spots in the rear doors are because the MSP and P5 have their rear speakers in the doors (and my MSP has empty holes in the trunk deck for speakers as well).

If the MP3 stock sub setup is anything like the MSP setup, I wouldn't count on having much additional trunk space with the stock sub installed vs a small sub box. The sub/amp hang down far enough from the underside of the trunk deck that they pretty well hamper your ability to fit long and/or bulky objects in the trunk. I could see a bag of golf clubs being very tricky to fit in my trunk...

My personal recommendation would be to check out something like the Infinity Basslink. It's a pretty compact powered sub that will fill in the bottom end easily as well as the factory sub without cutting into your trunk space as much.

The bass link is a good idea. I should look into similar ones that coudl go under the front seats. they i could mount an amp in the stock sub locations for the rear speakers.

If i take my rear doors off will I be able to mount speakers there or are they unfinished. I would imagine maze used the same doors as the other proteges so i should be able to wire in sepakers without too much fuss. HMM all the options.

Good answer on the reason for why it looks like there is a spot in the door. The really easy answer was because it would have cost more to "design" a new one...

As for the sub, there is nothing wrong with it, it actually works really well. For the price you can get there on here sometimes (I've seen them for <100$), they are totally worth it, especially since they take 2mins to take out with the bolts that are included. At worse, just post a WTB thread, there must be many people who have upgraded their sub.

BTW, Great purchase! Congrats on the new AWESOME car! (thumb)

my golfclubs fit in my car just fine, i can fit about 3 bags in the trunk if i have to

BMP3 what sub do you have, I assume you mean the stock deck mounted one? how do you think it sounds? Matt
