Weird noise help..

Anyone know what this noise could be? I can only notice it when the car's stopped and running.
Most noticeable in the video from 0:49 - 0:59s.

If it is clicking.. it is the injectors. It's a Direct injection.

I'm not sure if i would describe as a clicking. It's not constant or consistent. It sounds more like a rock hitting a fan and jumping around. The stealership couldn't reproduce the sound. Figures..

My guess would be surpentine belt idler pulley bearings going bad. If it changes with engine RPM chances are thats it.

interesting..its impossible to hear while driving, so i can only hear it when at idle.

So my coworker looked at it to find that the noise starts and enhances when I turn the steering wheel slowly. The noise comes from behind the engine around the alternator. I must be putting a load on something that causes it.

another video for anyone who is kind enough to chime in on the issue. i took the passenger wheel off and sounds like its coming from right around the crankshaft.

knokout5, Hard to troubleshoot from a video and this is the first car I've owned with timing chain versus a best but I was wondering if maybe it the chain lose and hitting the side of metal cover when the engine isn't under load? Just a thought? I've heard belts slap around on the insides of covers when they wear out but those obviously aren't metal and don't sound quite like this. Good luck.

it's not rhythmic at all and that concerns me.

That would be your VVT actuator, or something like that (I can't recall)....There's a recall on it...Check it out. That's what it was for my car

There is no way that the chain is hitting anything. The tensioner is a set of full length polymer guides that are designed to never require adjustment for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Disagree 100%.

You know when the VVT is going out. It'll sound like marbles shaking in a tin can for a couple seconds upon start. That sound in the video is non-rhythmic and makes me think something is bouncing around on the pistons or in the drivetrain.

Another wrong. Chain slap can/does occur to the valve cover if the VVT goes or the tensioner fails.

^ Truth. There were marks on the inside of my valve cover when the dealer replaced my timing chain and did the VVT fix.

But I had dual noise issues. When the warranty work above was done, then we could hear the belt tensioner rattling when tipping in the throttle.

i replaced my tensioner assembly and belt and the noise is gone. I realized that as the load was put on the belt, you could hear the ticking sound match with the movement of the tensioner plate. so far, i havent noticed anything wrong with my vvt
