2017~2024 Weird flap on rear wheel arches?

Exactly what it is.

If so, impressive attention to detail. Maybe that little flip has more of an effect than I can imagine.

Is anyone really familiar with automotive wind tunnel testing? I'm wondering if they set it up so that the wheels can turn. Kind of like a dyno with no load.

Ok, so I was wondering if anybody had any more enlightenment on what that little bump on the rear wheel arch does? I've seen them on Nissans, Alphas, and now, on my sons' brand new Toyota Corolla. He bought it last week and brought it over for me to see, and sure enough, that little bump is there behind the rear tire on the wheel arch.
Does it have a name even? What does it do? Improve airflow maybe? It's also present on the MX-5 (Miata).
Just curious.
