water to air intercooler

now let me tell you dont follow the instructions they send you as far as just daggling it near the throttle the wire is delicate and looks like will snap after about of week of driving and wiggling. Ill do a small how to later. I have to find some hardware for the thermocouple. I did get some intresting readings while i had it attached to the cold pipe. my temps went up about 1 deg every 45 seconds of stuck in traffic time.

well i ended up drilling a small hole on the side of the intercooler and inserted the thermocouple.

i drilled the whole small enough that the probe barely fit then used a super adhesive to hold and seal the opening.

this is the adhesive

this stuff is awesome just dont get the glue and powder on your self it creates a chemical burn.

theres one on ebay for 70 or so the one i got was 50 but yes iam eventually i will buy a second one to go on the hot pipe..

That's not a bad price. What about an OBD scanner to read the stock temp sensor? I know it's pre-turbo, but if your post intercooler temps are near the pre-turbo temps, you would then know overall efficiency of the intercooler.

I've also contemplated trying to move the stock temp sensor post turbo, but I don't know what the stock ECU relates intake temps to ignition timing. Plus trying to get it to seal under boost would be a bit of a pain.

Ive done that before and saab and volvo actually run there turbo cars in that fashion.
My temp reading have been 10deg difference from out side temps. when its cool outside it has been 6 deg difference. The intercooler is super efficient. What i cant wait to read is hot pipe temps versus cold side temps.

Wow, if you're only seeing a 10 temperature rise, is is efficient! I'm running the same core as you, but I think I'm running a bigger radiator, now I'm really wondering what my post-intercooler temps are...

I tried looking at the pics themselves but they dont load.
So I have been watching my temps and im going to be swapping my reservoir for a mutch smaller unit. All that extra water just heat soaks when the car is off.
That cold air box is also a good idea ive noticed a vicious cycle when my fans kick on the cai sucks in the hot air and starts heating up the engine faster which kick on the fans and the cycle goes on and on.
Ive watched my throttle air temp go from 70 to 100 in stand still traffic. Im considering moving the fog lights and creating that ram air system.

with the extra room ill be throwing this guy on

but im going to go and get the 3" becuase the2.5 just dont fit..

Terbow has his car for sale in the vehicle section, just ask him to take more or if he has the old ones

trying to figure out in what direction to go to make a Ram air for the cold intake. For now im just going to get a duct to direct more cold air to the filter..

So I swapped out the reservoir. To the smaller unit looks pretty ugly there but the heat soak is super low after driving a while and what ever is present is dropped pretty fast. Also as a plus the air temp is actually running cooler at times as close to ambient by 6 Degrees at times. There is a draw back to having a small reservoir as you boost your air temp climbs a bit quicker but it starts dropping just as fast. ON average Im still about 10 +/- 2 degrees off of ambient after boost.

and here is my ram vent. Mind you this is my 1st attempt. I sealed everything i could so it could be air tight but it could be neater.
When it gets warmer ill do a better job..
