Warranty question

I was curious to know what exactly will void my warranty.. I know that mods to the engine will do this but what about to the exterior and interior of the car?

I'm going to the dealership tomorrow to have my car checked out. Just curious to what I needed to be aware of in the future, if I plan to mod my car..

I would imagine that your HD lip and bulbs would be of no concern to any dealer. From my understanding, though, each dealership is different. If you are up front with the tech and not a jackass about engine mods, they will be more forgiving. Also, if you're planning on doing light mods (like myself...SRI/TIP, Test Pipe, etc.) then you can easily remove them for dealer visits.

Well thats what I was thinking, cause I'm probably only going to put on a bpv, sri, tip, and that would be about it for a while.. I read on another forum that boost gauges will void a warranty. I was thinking about getting one but decided I needed to make sure first.. That seems like a dumb thing to void a warranty about tho..

I plan to talk to the Mazda tech tomorrow and ask her about minor modifications and my warranty..

I'm confused as to how a boost gauge would void the warranty....

I don't know.. I read on the speed forums that someone got their warranty voided for a boost gauge.. I'll find the link and show you..

I'm sure that if you tap into the car's electrical system Mazda (and most other manufacturers) are going to try to pull your warranty. It sounds dumb, but if you think about it everything on the car relies on the electrical system. If you alter that otherwise proven-stable system, you could compromise their engineering. At the point of you filing a warranty claim, everything being dependant on the electrical system can eventually be tied back to the changes that you made.

Boost gauges are great, but if you're under warranty (and want to keep it) stick with a DashHawk or something that plugs into the OBD-II port.

^^Huh...makes total sense. I guess I didn't expect them to be that finicky about a boost gauge.

Every company is going to do their best to relinquish liability back to the user any chance they get. There are a bunch of threads on these forums outlining Mazda owners' experiences with Mazda warranty. You would cry yourself to sleep tonight knowing what they've done to some folks.

Yea these are the horror stories that I hear about.. It sucks because the things I wanna do I'm scared to do because of the warranty.. It really does depend on the dealer from what I hear.. As for me I have one shot at them being nice to me because there is only one Mazdaspeed dealer around and I have to drive 2 hrs just to get to it.. So I'm hoping that they are assholes to me and will let me have minor mods since thats all I plan to do for now anyway..

Any minor mods that you do such as intake, turbo inlet pipe, test pipe, accessport, upgraded top-mounted intercooler, shifter bushings and shorter shifter... can all very easily be put back to stock in 4-5 hours (total). The car will feel incredibly different with all of those on there. The dealer will never even know.

That's what I intend to do if anything should ever require warranty work.

BTW, take a look at my signature....see what a brief ride in your car last week did to me?

It's so easy to get hooked! You going to make it to Gateway this Friday?

Right.. Thats all I plan to be putting on is probably a bpv, sri, tip, and few other things.. Which all of those are in the engine bay and look fairly simple to take in and out..

I plan to ask them anyway just to see what they say..

The dashhawk looks like a good buy with all the things that it is able to do.. I may look into investing into one of those.. But damn $300 is alot for something that is not necessarily needed lol..

Still not sure....I'll find out mid-week if I'm driving down to Table Rock Lake to go skiing or not, I'll let you know. There should be some decently fast cars there from a few of the local St. Louis forums.

**** me, now i need to take my gauges out and replace the door in order to get them to even fuggin look at the power steering noise im getting when i turn right, :( FAIL!

this is good information though...
