vtec?

haha, nice.. i got to 125 on the turnpike without realizing it cuz it gets there so fast now with turbo, once i looked at the mph i was like oooops

ive been about 125-28 and that was fast enough for me in my protege. and about 165 in passenger seat of a 1993 RX7 on the HWY sounds like a tornado outside the car, cant imagine 191 jesus christ that fast!!!

i dunnno going 124 in my stock p5 on i75 felt like i wasn't moving. . cause the damn speedo just creeps up ever so slowly once you pass like 115

off topic
have you guys seen the gas mileage estimates for porsches?
i think it was like 8 city 26 hwy and those arent typos

That is the link from right after I drove it...I claimed 184mph as the highest in that thread...I honestly don't know exactly for sure, being that the faster you go the narrower the road seems...and i didn't spend much time concentrating on the speedo...Even from my quick glance, I could tell it was deep into the 180's

As far as MPG I believe it...I burned over a half tank in just over 1hr...most of the time dwadling around wet turns not pushing the car at all...after 3 or 4 150+ surges up the highway it drank about 1/4 of tank...if you get deep into the boost it sucks it like crazy, if you don't it still sucks it like crazy...

128 in a 69 Stingray 427 is my record. And that scared the s*** out of me. mostly anxiety from the fuzz though. geez, 191 is like autobahn speed.

my brother has a 93 rx7 we were racing a supra with a single turbo(t66) on the turnpike we got up to about 180's but the supra was beating us he said he was in the 190's when we had to shut it down

lol, highest I have gone is 185.

dad works for jaguar test facility here in AZ, basically where they do all their hot weather and multi altitude testing. (ie: drives to death valley and back, flag and back, storm chasing, all kinds of crap) he is one of the head techs their for the jaguar division since they share a base with volvo(******* ford) but they have a nice tri-oval track and a road circuit there, drove both an xjr and xkr which make roughly 400hp each. in the xkr got to 185 at the top wide turn before i had to slow down for turn three onto the straight. scared the s*** out of me honestly, was basically running on pure adrenaline and my shaking legs showed it afterword.

racing go-karts back in the day was nothing like this =)

edit: not to get off topic, sorry, the simplest explanation of vtec I have heard is that the camshaft has 2 sets of lobes instead of one, meaning it can use one set for lower rpm and another set for a higher section of rpm. the ecu basically tells it at what rpm to kick into the other set.

all systems are a little different from company to company.

well then that totally answers my question

so does mazda, in fact, have a variable valve something or other for the p5? if so a g/d might be in order:)

the NA 3rd gen Proteges don't have variable valve timing

Mazda does have a variable-valve timing system, its marketing name is called Sequential Valve Timing (S-VT)

it is currently used in the Miata and both engines of the Mazda6.
