Viton hoses and clamps

All,
What is the measurement of the control hoses, want to replace them with viton as a few of mine were rock hard and split I noticed whilst home and playing with the Cosmo (temp silicone hose fix). I think they are 8mm OD, 4mm ID and 2mm wall thicknees? I measure whilst there but its not in my notes.

When I did this to my FD I used zip ties to secure the hoses, over time though they too become brittle. Any good recommendations for secure and user friendly clamps to use? Collecting some parts for my next trip to give her some more love.

Thanks

Ant

Great questions and finds...I've come across discussions about Rubber Vs Silicone Vs Viton in the past...There's no doubt we're dealing with a lot heat over an extended period of time...Long-term resistance is key... http://www.turborx7.com/Media/hosedebate.pdf Thanks for the link, great info there!

Would Viton be ideal as well to replace the rubber intake hoses and for the radiator as well?

On a related note, any recommendations on high-grade hose clamps with a clean look..?

Viton would be ungodly expensive to replace such large items with, it is not a cheap item. I don't believe it would gain you anything using it in such locations as well but it is ideal for the turbo/vacuum hoses and I've never come across or used anything better.

As for the hose clamps I'm going with Tefzel cable ties this time and test them out over normal ones:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETFE
I don't like those spring type hose clamps personally.

Thanks for the info...I wonder how available / expensive viton is in Japan...I'm going to definitely keep it mind when it comes time to replace turbo/vacuum hoses!

Those
Tefzel cable ties are serious stuff...

• Ideal for applications requiring resistance to environmental stresses such as chemical attack, gamma radiation, ultraviolet radiation and extreme temperatures
• Ideal for use in nuclear power facilities and chemical processing plants

Be aware, Viton and the Tefzel cable ties are generally expensive. Whilst not a cheap option they should offer a very reliable one. Viton worked flawlessly on my FD.
