remember that slicks grow in diameter the faster they turn effectively numerically decreasing your final drive.

Yeah but in drag racing, like this 323 that runs 9s and traps 145mph in the 1/4mile, used an higher final drive, because lauching with those slicks was too much for his setup.

FAke or not...

I think it's fake. There is something shady about the rpms and the needle...

I've had my totaly stock 2003 up to 235kph with more to go......if he has got a few bolton's 250 is possible for sure. when does the rev limiter kickin? 7200?

One, Thats Not An Msp (notice The Lack Of The Badging On The Cluster)... Its A Ford Tierra Rs 2.0.

Two, He Is Shifting Between 6100-6500 Rpms (6500 The First Shift It Looks Like).

Three, It looks like he swapped the gauge face on his kph speedo with a mph gauge face. (220 KPH IS WHAT THE TIERRAS CLUSTER READS... OURS 140MPH, 220KPM = ROUGHLY 136MPH).

Now this may seem a little farfetched but what if the speedo is actually reading kilometers. 180kph is only 110mph? So in theory if the speedo was set up to run KPH in the first place and was replaced with a MPH gauge face, it would still register KPH. Hence why he's pulling like a mofo at a supposed 140MPH.

Naw thats not it, the guage goes to the same place for cars that run klm. (the needle points to the same place, the only difference is the reading on the guage)

My car used to be in klm, but I switched it to mph, annd the readings are at the same place (you should have klm readings in small on your guages, flip them with the mph readings), the klm goes up to 220klm/h arround the point where the mph read 140mph

Pretty creative idea though.

With my other car being a 240sx, I know quite a few people who have swapped their speedo for the 180sx/silvia speedo that reads up to 180 KPH. When they do that the needle is still reading in MPH. So when it may appear that he/she is doing 180MPH its actually only 110ish.

I wasn't aware the other markets of MSP/ Ford Tierra went up that high in KPH. Seemed logical/feasable.

Either way the amount of pull he has as the speed increases, paired with how quiet the car is just doesn't factor up. I mean my msp barely surpasses 100MPH in 4th. Maybe its a 7-speed, lol.

Ive chalked this up to a busted speedo, where his 0mph is somewhere arround the 60mph mark. Sooo when it reads 60mph hes actually NOT moving, and 65mph means hes going 5mph, and so on from there.

Im not saying that a MSP modded righ wont be able to go over 140mph, it just WONT look like that when its done. The speed increase/rpm and all simply dont add up corectly.

damn..

most people here is so closed to the american market that if they see something different its like spotting an ufo!!

you guys definitely have to find a 300+whp protege and sit in it on a highway run and you'll see that it's possible =\

1st of all, we can go close to 150km/h in 3rd gear (about 93mph, compared to the 100mph in 4th gear that someone mentionned before). and that's pretty much how fast it accellerates based on the few times i was in Focus' car. well built engine, bigger turbo, lotsa boost and that's pretty much how its gona run. you get to that 137mph cut off very fast

add a standalone to remove the speed limit and you're done. Also, the gauge cluster swap would not change anything. Swapping between km/h and mph is different than swapping a North American cluster (in a 240sx/180sx) that goes up to lets say 240kmh with a jdm that stops at 180kmh ... they both have different limits and i guess the ECU has to be calibrated for it. Swapping between different Proteg clusters only swaps the position of the kmh vs mph ... 100mph = 160kmh

what you were refering to (speedo swap on a 240sx for jdm cluster) would be like switching the face of a boost gauge that read lets say 2bar for a 1bar face but not changing the programming inside the gauge. in the case of the proteg its like changing a gauge that reads 2bar for one that reads 30psi which is basically the same gauge with different numbers in front
