Video/Audio iPod Integration

I have been wondering if there was a way to get the iPod video to play through the navigation's screen. I think I have found a way but I don't know enough about this stuff to be able to say it would work so I was hoping somebody around here might be able to back me up or shoot me down.

This product looks like it will be able to easily tap into the nav systems hardware to offere an RCA video input:

This product looks like it will be able to offer an iPod connection into the stereo for the audio and also offer the video output that would be able to connect into the 1st product that I listed.

It seems like these two should work together. One thing I thought of that I'm not sure about is whether or not the iPod, while in video mode, would actually output the sound and the video at the same time. I would be worried about the sound output not working once it enters video mode.

Anybody have any thoughts?

never heard of first product but their literature seems to be the real deal... as far as getting audio and video out of an ipod i have no idea as i do not own one.. i am sure another one of the members like icspots or some one will be able to help you out more

edit** welcome to the forums... saw it was your first post

I don't know anything about hooking up video to the NAV screen. I know that it hasn't been a plug and play process before, but perhaps that module you linked would do it. Do note that it requires cutting four wires to hook up.

As for the audio.... The audiolink can provide the audio solution you're looking for, however I don't know if it would be compatible with the video idea you have. Or at least not the obvious way. If the video out is through the dock connector then you'd have to run the audio into the 3.5mm jack on the audiolink instead of through the dock connector as you obviously can't have two plugs in it at the same time.

I assume the only way to access the video output on the ipod is through the dock connector, right? I'm not an ipod person so I don't really know.

So another option for you is this (based on the whole preceeding dock connector thing). Instead of buying the audiolink and having to use the 3.5mm input buy the PIE/RCA combo, and get the A/V ipod dock connector cable. The PIE plugs into the TAPE/MD slot and the RCA cable will obviously provide you with RCA inputs. Plug the other cable into the ipod, connect the RCA cables, and then connect the video output from the ipod cable to the NAV system via your other method.

If that all made sense then you're doing pretty well. I'm not sure why you'd be worried that the ipod wouldn't have sound while in video mode...... I mean what's the point in it playing videos if you can't listen to them at the same time?

The Audio Link uses two separate cords, one for video and one for audio. The iPod video connectors that I've seen have the 3 RCA outputs. My thought was that if it was in video mode then it might be looking for the RCA outputs to send the sound through rather than the audio side of the Audio Link. And like I said, I know enough to get by but not a whole lot so what I just said may have made no sense at all. But thanks for the input!

That is one piece yeah. That would give an RCA video output cable but there also needs to be a place to plug that cable into that would be displayed on the screen. The nav system doesn't havef a video input which is why I would also need the other item in my first post

I guess, my real question is whether or not these two pieces of equipment would work together.

It's the same unit for all compatible mazdas, so the Mz6 one will work with the Mz3. I hadn't seen those other cable though.

To the OP, since they offer that cable then that's what you need. There are three choices.

You'll be:

-charging the ipod
-have integration
-have a built in video output

Like you mentioned though you'll still need to get something that will provide a video input, but the audiolink with that cable will solve your problem. Note that RPM is currently backordered on the cable with both 3.5mm input, and the video output.

Where the heck do you get those cables??

Thanks!
