Variable Wiper Switch?

I've been thinking about this more -- there's a small dome on the right side of the dash; anyone know what this is for in the 2? In 3's at least, Mazda puts the ambient light sensor/rain sensor (for auto headlights and wipers) under such a piece. I have a sneaking suspicion the hardware we need may already be there and we're just lacking the switch to activate it.

My 08 mazda3 touring hatchback has the variable front wipers with rear wiper and NO rain sensing...which is what you guys are looking for.....if that info helps.
