Valentine One Radar Detector?

V1 or Passport 8500 - it doesn't matter.

I was wondering if you have the direct connect wire for the 8500. If you do, what did you use as a 12v source. I was going to use the lighter plug as a 12v source, but when I tapped into it, it didn't work. There are two wires there. I'm assuming one is 12v and the other is ground. I'm pretty sure that I tapped into the 12v source, as it is marked on the lighter plug. The color of the wire is black w/white dots. The other one, which I didn't tap into, was black w/a white stripe and white dots. Can you or anyone else please help!!?

I just tapped into my stereo 12 v power wire. Worked fine. Let me go check on that other wire when I have time.

I recently borrowed a friends Valentine One for a road trip down to LA for the Auto Show and damn this thing is awesome. He advised me that the best place to put it was right below the rear view mirror. He said that the higher up on the window, the better it would function. My question is, does anyone have a Valentine One and if so, where did you/do you mount it? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I don't want to mount it that high on my window because I don't have tinted widows and placing it that high would be like putting a red sign on the top of my car that says "I'm a speeder" to all cops who get near my car. I plan on buying one and hardwiring it so I won't be using up my cigarette lighter plug. I would mount it lower like this pic

no the lower the better it will work...cops tend to aim for ur license plate...and laser beams are pretty narrow so it wont detect it as much if you have it to high. may want to read this...and then change your mounting location

I don't think it's good as the Passport 8500, or even the V1. Plus it cost's to $MUCH.

i am lookin at the vector 995...215 shipped...not 400 like the v1, plus it got better reviews on radarbusters.com

Holy crap! This thread is from 2003...on a side note I got the 8500 and ZR3 setup this week. I'll post pics in a thread next weekend when I do the install.

i'm stuck between the passport 8500 x50 and the Beltronics rx65. :\ Radar Roy from radarbusters.com chose the rx65 as the best radar even over the V1, so I am leaning toward that. They are about the same price and the rx65 has voice prompts i believe is what radar roy said, and the x50 doesnt. So can anyone give me a little help?

I have had my 8500 for a few days now and I have to say that I like it a lot. I used to have a Cobra detector with the voice prompts and it got really annoying really quick. I would say after a week it was turned off.

anyone know if escort or beltronics is coming out with a new radar anytime soon? i dont want to buy the x50 and have them release a new one. just wondering if anyone knew!
