Vaccum leak or Timing problem?

Hey guys,

Unfortunately I'm having ALOT of problems with the turbo today.. Last night it ran fine, but this morning it seemed to idle a bit worse and when I hit the gas it took a really long time to raise RPM's. Once it got up to 3 or so and boost rose-I was ok. I'm guessing that has to do with the raising rate regulator.

Then this afternoon it got really bad. At stop litghts it took me forever to get moving. I parked my car back at home and got a ride back to work.

My questions is: Is this a vaccum leak I need to fix or is this the timing problem? :(

probably still a loose I/C hose the one hooked to the turbo is the biggest b**** to fasten right. I couldn't see that mine was slightly loose until I took the other off and say a small area was smoother on the pipe then on the rest of it. my car never spools to max before 3500 RPM. I wouldn't realy expect it to since the car never had any power down low anyways.

Also are all of your vacuum hoses ran together. At first mine were not and it ran like s***. It sputtered up to 4000rpms then it would take off. Then after we hooked all of the vacuum lines together, it did fine.

This isn't totally true, our cars have alot more power off of the line because we have a steady torque curve, unlike Honda's that if they want to get a good jump they have to rev up to VTECH.

More like even when NA the car still had no real power efore 3500. Basicly getting there could take a little while and then it will increase revs from there alot quicker. By the way I had a 97 Integra LS it was much faster overall and down low compared to the MP3. To bad I hated that car.

You definetely have a leak somewhere in the IC piping. I know exactly what you are talking about. You press the gas and it studders and doesn't hardly move. Then when the boost rises up to about 3psi, it takes off like a bat outta hell snatching your head to the back of the seat. Am I right. If this is what is happening, you definetely have a leak somewhere.

you are absolutely right....couldn't be described better.. After work today I'll jack it up and check all connections. What a pain, we've done this so many times, and regardless it comes loose. Is there anyhting to do to perminately get this fixed? Stronger clamps?

You can get some T-bar clamps instead of the normal screw type clamps. T-bar clamps are much more expensive though. I think theyare like $3 each. But they will not let it come off at all. Or you can take off all the IC piping and put a bead of any type of epoxy all the way around the ends of the pipes. Also, do you have the EGR tube connected? That was one of my problems too. I had forgotten to plug it. In your case, the FM kit has a connection for it on the manifold.

Hmmm. The EGR. I'm going to have to check that out. I didn't do a lot of the install, my best friend did. does anyone know right where it is, or should be?

Also, my check engine light came on this morning, and is still on. Would this be related to the vaccum leak, or the egr?

Yep. The EGR tube is the metal tube that is about 1/2 outter diameter that is running to the drivers side of the manifold. If that is loose, it's like having a vacuum leak the size of a dime.(which is a big leak) I'd check that first, then check everything else. Also check your turbo compressor housing. There are usually some bolt holes for extra vacuum lines to be run from, if there are some there that aren't plugged with a bolt, that is also a leak.

I think the EGR, exhuast gas return line is the brass metal tube that connects to the treaded peice of corkys manifold on the drivers side.

For the I/C hoses Corkys clamps are realy good just use a wratchet instead of a screw driver and they should be fine.

I can tell you this about turbo setups. The problems you are having are normal. You will have tons of these little problems along the way. They won't do any damage to the motor so don't worry about that. Just make sure everything is getting oil and you will be fine. The kinks will just take time and experimentation to get past. Just make sure your oil levels are always good,....unlike mine,:( and you will be fine.

Yep, I remember this experience when you were working on the turbo. Check all your hoses, and charge piping.

FIXXXXXXED!!!

Ok guys, all of my problems fixed. Now am running very good with no idle problems at all.

It turned out there was a hole in my intake tubing and it just got worse and worse and by the time I found it it had almost blew the intake hose completely in half!!!!

But I went to Napa and got some very expensive turbo charger hose and just replaced the old stuff with that. It looks a lot uglier-but it works.

BTW blew a mustang GT away this mornig. It wasn't even funny.

Tonight...-The exhaust. hehe

Wow...great to blow off a Mustang right after getting it all fixed up :) by the way 1st how much are you selling the type s for I might be interested in the near future

Not I, I think it smp300 selling the Type S blow off valve.

I bet it was funny!:D To see the look on that guy's face! I can't wait till I hit 1000 miles on the new engine. The turbo will be going on.
