usually what is the distance your P5 can run???

usually my p5 runs about 250 miles, the low gas light will be turn on. therefore i did some of the stat. by myself to see how many miles a gallon of gas can run....
and here is the result:
City: around 18.5-19.5 miles per gallon of gas
highway: around 20.5-22 miles per gallon of gas
Now, here is the problems that the sticker on the car shows that the car can runs:
City: 25 miles per gallon of gas
highway: 30 miles per gallon of gas
(i knew that is the max. performence and i dont think any of you guys can reach these number.)
But i just want to know that how come there are such a big difference between it?
Also is there anything which will help improve gas saving for the car?

note:
- i usually drive in city and i lived in San Francisco where hills are all around this place.
- my p5 is an automatic tran. and i usually dont turn off the over drive.
- i usually drive 30- 40 mph in the city.

I live in Canada, and am too lazy to do the conversion, but don't worry about your mileage. It looks fine to me. It will usually take up to 10000km (6000 miles?) for a car to get the optimal mileage, so keep track, and you will probably see better results in a few months.

p.s. I suppose it must be hot down there in San Fran, you have your AC on? That will eat lot of gas.

i'm usually at about 200 miles or so when my tank reads that it's 1/2 full. i think the farthest i've gone without filling up again was about 350 miles -- and even then the low gas warning didn't kick in.

my average mpg over the last 30 or so fillups has been 25.89. i do city driving during the week, highway weekends.

you'll never get EPA estimates because you live in California and you're using oxygenated fuel year-round.

not only that, if you're in downtown SF, you have tons of inclines to deal with, and with an automatic tranny (I don't blame you for having it if you live in SF), your mileage won't be as good, but having a 5-speed in SF would be worse, I think.

how do you get better gas mileage?

-park the P5, take the BART.
-move somewhere flat: Central Texas
-inflate your tires to max air pressure, ignore stoplights, maintain a constant velocity of 50 MPH, drive with the wind, always drive in straight lines

DON'T take any of my suggestions. live with the bad gas mileage...it will get better once Simon becomes governor and he bans MTBE from California.

as mentioned before unless you lived in the same area its like comparing apples and oranges...

for I have and do get the milage from the P-5 that was stated on the sticker....

I normally get somewhere near 25 MPG in town...and went on a 4800 mile trip this last summer and not only got 30 MPG on the highway...that was with the car fully loaded....four people...and all their lougage.

On the freeway with the car loaded (3 people plus baggage) and the A/C on, if I keep the speed at 75 or below, I can go 430 to 450 miles to a tank.

Usually around 325 to 350 around town.

I guess we've got "oxygenated fuel " here - Most of the cheaper stations have the 10% ethanol stuff, and I use it all the time.

The first time i filed the car up, i got around 300 miles. I live in bay area. I don't know why u got automatic. I drive with no problems with stick in SF. All you have to do is to keep the car in first if you are at a red light on a hill...and play with the clutch...

I've gone about 650 kilometers on a tank which is about 380 miles give or take. Mainly highway at around 120kmh which is about 70mph. The light came on around 600 kilometers or 360 miles.

Comparing mileage (and this entire thread) is a meaningless excercise, as all these factors affect your gas mileage and no 2 drivers/cars will be the same:

1. Transmission - Auto or Manual
2. Your driving 'style'
3. Driving conditions (use of headlights, A/C, heater)
4. Road conditions (hilly/flat)
5. Length of trips
6. % of Hwy/City driving
7. The load carried in the car (e.g. # of people/ weight of cargo).
8. Tire pressure, condition of air filter, other maintenance items

etc...etc...etc...

The best I've driven on one tank

The very best was 622km (386.5miles) and there still was gas left. I was driving 110km/h (68.4mph) on a hilly highway, on cruise, 2 adults 1 kid, no a/c, manual tranny. REGULAR gas.
