Used to have a 2003 Mazda6 Sport -it might have saved my life - Just bought a 2009 GT

Hello,

I had a 2003 Mazda 6 sport, and on Sept 2, I was struck by a truck hailing a trailer with a John Deer front loader on it, at 50 MPH on my drivers side. The trailer went flying over my car after striking me, and then landed upside down on the road.

Instantly the side airbags were deployed, and all windows except the rear passenger windows were shattered. I was struck so hard that I could feel the side of the car pressing against my side.

My car was pinned against a pole on the passenger side and I could not get out for 30 minutes. The EMTs climbed into my car after breaking the windows and lifted me out, into an ambulance and then into a helicopter where I was flown to shock trauma in Baltimore, MD about 40 miles from where the accident happened.

I was home by 10:30pm that night, after getting cat scans and x-rays. Lots of pain but appears no internal damage.

Although I credit GOD for lifting up the trailer and putting on the other side of my car,I credit my Mazda6 to popping it's side airbags, and taking the brunt of the trauma.

This happened 2 weeks ago- still feel pain, but just bought my 2009 Mazda6 GT on Saturday.I love this car but will always have a small place in my heart for my original 6.

I have contacted Mazda with my story and they are interested in hearing more and seeing the pictures. The car looked like a hunk of metal, but it helped keep me breathing. The police officer at the scene later told me "You are one lucky SOB" and the insurance appraiser called my house thinking he was going to talk to my widow.

Peace!

That is a great story! My 94 B3000 saved me in a severe crash back in the day. Would be interesting to see what the crash scene looked like, John Deere vs Mazda....

Here is a link to the article in the localpaper. I made the front page of the printed version.

(you will probably have to copy and paste the link)
If you save the pictures and blow them up you can see the car and the trailor with the front loader on it.

If you read the last 2 comments, it is me thanking the EMTs and one of the EMT's telling his part.

I have other pictures of the car at the junkyard that I took but I do not have them on a website and that appears to be the way you get a piture on a message on this forum.

You really are very lucky! Good to hear you don't have a scratch, and that your old 6 held up nicely. It's comforting to hear that the previous gen 6 and 3's have been pretty tough in collisions...and the new ones are even stronger.

A friend's sister just crashed into a palm tree and I've just told her your story...hope you don't mind :P (she's also ok, but your story is kinda spectacular!)

Oh I had a scratch. I was picking glass out of my head, arms and legs for days, and got stitches for the glass that went into my arm. My shoulder still hurts, my chest hurst and my whole body aches without Advil.

But I am breathing!

Thank god your alive! Enjoy your new ride! can you post side by side pic of each car.
