Hello,
I had a 2003 Mazda 6 sport, and on Sept 2, I was struck by a truck hailing a trailer with a John Deer front loader on it, at 50 MPH on my drivers side. The trailer went flying over my car after striking me, and then landed upside down on the road.
Instantly the side airbags were deployed, and all windows except the rear passenger windows were shattered. I was struck so hard that I could feel the side of the car pressing against my side.
My car was pinned against a pole on the passenger side and I could not get out for 30 minutes. The EMTs climbed into my car after breaking the windows and lifted me out, into an ambulance and then into a helicopter where I was flown to shock trauma in Baltimore, MD about 40 miles from where the accident happened.
I was home by 10:30pm that night, after getting cat scans and x-rays. Lots of pain but appears no internal damage.
Although I credit GOD for lifting up the trailer and putting on the other side of my car,I credit my Mazda6 to popping it's side airbags, and taking the brunt of the trauma.
This happened 2 weeks ago- still feel pain, but just bought my 2009 Mazda6 GT on Saturday.I love this car but will always have a small place in my heart for my original 6.
I have contacted Mazda with my story and they are interested in hearing more and seeing the pictures. The car looked like a hunk of metal, but it helped keep me breathing. The police officer at the scene later told me "You are one lucky SOB" and the insurance appraiser called my house thinking he was going to talk to my widow.
Peace!
