I want to hook a hard drive up to a car stereo that is USB compatable, and be able to play all of my mp3s that way. I made it work with a Kenwood deck that I had, but navigation was a beach! The user interface on the Kenwood KDC-MP435U was horrilbe. I would like to have either something that navigates like an iPod with a color screen, or something with a touch screen LCD, but I can't find one that has USB for under $500.

Anyone have any suggestions? If you have something that works, could you post a pic or make a recommendation? Thanks.

Here is what I had before:

There is a new Alpine unit out that mimics the interface of the iPod

Yeah, I almost bought that until I realized that it doesnt even have a CD player. It only has a iPod connection (and USB). Even though I would have all of my music, I still want a CD player just incase. So I didnt get it.

I can see what he has, but my buddy has some past model pioneer that had a USB connection on the front. He has a few thumb drives that he just plugs in and plays right from there. It seems to work pretty nice, the interface is nice (OLED screen) i just dont know if it has ipod control.

That may work. I dont actually care about iPod control because I dont own an iPod, but as long as the interface is similar or easy to use. I had about 12 gigs of songs on the hard drive with the Kenwood deck and it took like five minutes just to scroll through and find the song I wanted to play.

Im sorry, it was not a Pioneer it was a JVC (the big dial on the left threw me off).

He likes his alot, but i dont know if you are going to find that model anywhere now. They do have some new models that have that same feature so check them out. I have only messed around the one in his car it a hand full of times since i dont really drive in his car much. Its worth taking a look at. But ya, find a sale on some 4 gig thumb drives and you have yourself a winner. Check out www.newegg.com for some cheap deals on the thumb drives.
