US Diesel's big splash introduction

Big bore exhausts :-(

They spend millions on developing quiet exhausts as part of legislation and then let companies sell alternative “look at me” exhausts. Sorry, I don’t get it and I would have offenders sent to Gitmo.

Changing the sound signature with a light increase in sound plus good looks is one thing :), driving down a quiet neighborhood 3am in the morning sounding like a Harley is another:(

On the 2017 in the cabin on tick over you will hear nothing, not with my ears anyway, still obvious its a diesel though on the outside.

The sound deadening seems to have really helped. One can always open the window to hear it (wink)

If you really want to hear that good old fashioned diesel sound open the window while passing by glass fronted shops and the sound reflects back(naughty)

yup.
of the videos posted online it's barely noticeable at ALL inside the cabin thanks to the improved sound deadening.
outside, there's no mistaking it's a diesel.

Diesels have come a long way though, I remember the old late 80's Mercedes 300SDL's. soooo loud and every time they left a green light you'd get a HUGE cloud of black smoke.

Give me the 140kw, 360 camera and AA, and I'm ready to change, or I extend my warranty for another year.

totally agree.
my girlfriend drives 2.5 miles to work each morning. If I had her commute, I'd drive some obnoxious HEMI powered monster because...well... why not.

2.5 miles huh? Either a beach cruiser or a Hemi I guess :).

New engine has higher compression and now only one turbo, interesting, what will the US get?

This link appears to say a twin turbo is still used?

Correct. The Mazda brochure says Twin Turbo as well.

Also this from elsewhere:

"It adds a new two-stage twin turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, it adopts Rapid Multi-stage Combustion, with a new stepped egg-profile combustion chamber in the piston, and ultra-high-response multi-hole piezo injectors. Combined with the benefits of the turbocharger, the engine’s compression ratio increases from 14.0:1 to 14.4:1. A new water flow management system has also been added, quickening engine warm-up to help achieve better real-world fuel economy."

Thanks for that X.
