US Diesel's big splash introduction

Well, Mazda is really disappointing a lot of their customer/fans with the CX-5 diesel. I was wondering about the big reveal at New York today but assumed it would be nothing. I assumed correctly.

But, did anyone notice that Hyundai is going to have a 2019 Santa Fe diesel? I will definitely investigate when they are on the road. Could it be Mazda has totally dropped the diesel ball AGAIN? The '19 Santa Fe I've seen in pics isn't as nice looking as the CX-5 in my opinion, but it's acceptable.

After that, it has a choice: It can salvage the vehicles for parts and sell those in the U.S. or abroad (except for the ECU, oxidation catalyst, or particulate filter), or it can opt to fix the vehicles.

To appease regulators, VW has to perform an “approved emissions modification” on at least 85 percent of the affected vehicles by June 30, 2019, or the company could be subject to additional fines. Vehicles that are bought back otherwise need to be scrapped or “removed from commerce” if they’re not fixed, and no vehicles can be exported, either, until the approved emissions modifications have been done."

Imagine if Mazda North America some how decided to try and bring the CX-8 diesel there. Wonder if it would suffer the same issues as they did with trying to get the 6 diesel and now the CX-5 diesel.

Here's a taste of the 175hp diesel for USA/Canada folk.

Starts off with snow driving then hits the road and freeway (sunny day no snow) - see it accelerate/overtake and reach/stay at 150km/h (93mph):

The best pulling power comes at low revs. Revving it doesn’t get anywhere.

Yes it does power gives acceleration, and max power is high up, my auto will reach 4K in gear or above when I drive it quick.
The engine also has a sporty noise that I like.

It drops off the top of the torque curve and wastes fuel.
