urethane?!?

mmm... rice
well i'm still anxiously awaiting the arrival of my DGM urethane lip... however when i paid a visit to my local body shop to check it out and ask them about they're prices and stuff, the guy i spoke with although quite friendly told me some discouraging things. he said:

- urethane is absolutely awful material to work with
- most aftermarket kits are complete and utter junk
- if i haven't already bought it, he suggested i may think twice about buying
- if it doesn't fit there is very little he can do
- most likely my lip wouldn't hold for very long, double sided tape sucks
- i may notice defects later on in the paint due to flexing or air bubbles

overall he just seemed pretty negative about the whole idea of putting on an aftermarket lip, at first i was like hey maybe he's not into the whole import thing and just doesn't like alot of aftermarket products...

but there was an impressive collage of cars and trucks that have come through the shop and he claimed that some of thecars he's done have been in all the major magazines Super Street, Import Tuner and he said he's even had his stuff on the Speed Vision channel. Several other people have reccommended this shop but after talking with this guy i'm not all that confident about my lip...

I'm not sure if he's talking BS or if i should expect a buncha problems... has nebody else had problems with there lips ie. fitment, paint, staying on etc... what's the qulity of this product?? and is his disdain towards kits somthin i should consider or does he speak the truth??

alrite i'm done ranting

Your factory front and rear bumpers are made out of polyurethane. The thickness and flex of the aftermarket may be different, since it is man made. I have the Wings West aftermarket bumper and it took a lot of work to get to fit. But hey, its more durable than fiberglass, which is the only other real alternative for aftermarket. Plus if fiberglass is warped, its hard or impossible to get it to fit right. Polyurethane is flexible and easier to get to fit right. There havent been a ton of problems with them on here so I think you should be fine.

DGM urethane lip

i have the dgm lip and there aren't any fitment problems. on my lip besides using the double sided tape, i drilled holes in lip where it meets or attaches to the wheel well and i used a couple of screws to secure it. one other thing my car has been lowered and i been rubbing the lip but the screws are doing the job of holding it place. if anything the paint would probably crack before the lip falls off.

DGM Urethane Lip

I found out that if you want it to fit properly and look good, it takes some time for the lip to be prep. I took mine to "Fabrication Specilalist" in Sacramento, Ca. The owner Joe took around three days to really prep the urethane. It was acid washed, then painted twice, he used the tape and put some screws into the wheel well. It looks real good, I have however rubbed against a couple of curbs (what a sick feeling) and it is still on very secure.

take it to dif shop. for it having defects because of it flexing all you they have to do is add flex agent in the clearcoat. as for it getting bubbles its because they didnt clean the urethane right.

it's like anything, some shops wrok with the stuff and do a great job, others just hate it....find a new shop.
