2000 mazda protege es soon to be 2000 mazda protege klze
i wat to upgrade the wheels on my 2000 mazda protege from 4 lug wheels to 5 lug wheels and switch to rear disc brakes. i am wondering if i can just change the spindles or if there is more to change to get it to fit. also are the front spindles the same as the rear spindles. also how would i go about using abs if i switch that to.

You're probably not going to have abs. It's rare to find abs on a Protege to begin with. I don't know if their the same front to back, but I would imagine that you would just have to change the hubs and the accesories on the hubs. I'm probably wrong, but I try. lol

Try to find a wrecked ES and swap it all over! lol

Not sure about the rears, but front spindles (hubs) need to be changed to 5 lugs, ABS or not, don't matter, the sensor rim is mounted on the CV joint, so no issue there...

There's an article floating around here that says what's involved, but it's a lot more than just changing spindles. You also have to get 4 new hubs, rotors, and calipers, and the rear parking brake needs to be changed as well. This also doesn't include the cost of new tires, and you will probably need to change your abs if you end up with a different sized tire than you have now.

All in all, this upgrade is more trouble than it's worth IMHO. Much better to get stainless steel brake lines, upgrade your pads and rotors, and spend the rest of money on other mods.

thank you all for your answers. I still want to do the switch but i want to get coilovers more. So my question is if i get coilovers for my wheels now with 4 lugs will i need to modify anything when i switch to 5 lugs cause of different shock mounting. Thank you all again

Mounting for the struts/coilovers is all the same, the only exception is if the front endlink tabs are fit to work with the 01-03 then you will need 01-03 endlinks for the front, this is due to them being longer.

As for the brakes, if you have a 99-00 ES your calipers are the same as the 01-03 5-lug excluding the MSP.

thank for the info on the front endlinks. Now if anyone knows how soft i can get bc racing coilovers to be for when i am driving around town and on bumpy roads. That would be awesome
