Unidentified Rattle Sound

Hi,
New member and owner of 10 months a Red 2002 Protege 5

The reason I am posting is I have an unidentified sound. I am noobish to car maintenance but willing to get messy and learn.

The sound:
Rattle Sound as loud as a quite conversation (sounds the same with windows open)
WHERE: Front end to the drivers right.
WHEN: Driving over small bumps at any speed.
I can't reproduce the sound by bouncing the front end with my weight.

I thought it may have been the motor mounts have torn allowing the engine to rattle against something. I checked the front and passenger side. The front is almost torn through one side, I think I will replace that. The side mount had some tearing too. I learned about the mounts from this forum, Thank you.

The front engine mount has a roll damper next to it that was blocking the removal of the center bolt. Its arrangement didn't match the service manual graphic. I rearranged the roll damper according the the service manual graphics.

A bit of history;
Bought it used at 85,608 in Wisconsin. Previously one owner with no maintenance records.
Drove to New Jersey.
Move to Los Angeles.
Currently (94617) I drive it once a week to get around town.

My Questions?

I never have taken it in to get it looked at since driving ot off the lot. Should I do that with any used car purchase?

Was rearranging the roll damper acceptable?

What could be causing that sound?

Thanks.

it does look like someone removed that part before and reinstalled it improperly.... because it has been in the improper location for so long as well as the rust build up, I don't trust this part to be functional any more... I'd replace it if I were you

but you're right, it should look like this:

I replaced my front motor mount thanks to all the info on the forums.

I also think I located my noise issue.
The front Stabilizer has shifted an inch to the drivers side due to the passenger side positing bushing being broken.

How do I move the front Stabilizer back into position?
